All about Satellite tv, both FTA free to air and paytv available in Kenya and Africa in general.
Sat gear in use plus more....
New Pay-TV provider from Nigeria on Eutelsat16A at 16 East on the Sub-Saharan Africa beam: Consat on Eutelsat 16A at 16.0°E - LyngSat . Anyone curently on this sat can check and report back.
Some of the 12 FTA channels include: DW-Tv, Sports+, FightBox HD, FashionBox HD, Daystar TV, Dove TV, TVC News, TVC Hausa, TVC Entertainment, Kennis Music, Lagos TV, TV5 Monde Afrique. Consat is broadcasting on MPEG-4, Nagravision-3 platform.
According to their website (http://www.consat.tv), still under construction, "Consat TV is an homegrown African Pay-TV brand with the aim to deliver high quality local and international content to African households".
It should be possible to receive both 16E and 17E on the same dish, since already 5E and 7E is practically possible. There are plenty of other FTA channels on the sat too, mostly in French.

I can confirm getting both Amos 5 and Eutelsat 16A on one dish. Signal quality on both are very good. Quite an number of goodies.. Occasionally the pay TV "forget" to turn on encryption and I get to enjoy some goodies
I note that there has been a a number of Nigerian Based Pay TV coming up lately. not sure if the demand is that high in , but it seems like the collapsed of HiTV paved way for the new entrants. - like Daarsat,Montage,Consat,Infinity .. the one Nigerian Pay TV that has stood the test of time is MyTV on intelsat20, i think its partnership with Strong has been key to its survival.
Good Morning,
The annoying info on the bottom of MBC Channels is to info MBC viewers of two alternative frequencies which have been added due to MBC Misr channel Jamming.
As per info on Saturday, March 15, 2014 >>>
Satellite TV channel MBC Misr experienced another deliberate jamming of its signal on Friday 14th March during the airing of Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef's El-Bernameg show.
This was the second time its signal has been jammed following a similar incident during Youssefs episode Friday last week.
I am not accusing anyone, but I am wondering about the states inability to protect its satellite which brings it profit from being jammed for an hour from an unknown source, said Youssef via his Twitter account after the show was aired.
The Saudi-owned channel that broadcasts from Egypt's Media Production City issued a statement introducing a new frequency following Friday's disruptions in the signal.
Youssef's third season of El-Bernameg resumed 7 February on MBC Misr after being cancelled on Egyptian satellite channel CBC in October.
It was suspended following complaints that Youssef had mocked supporters of army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and allegedly insulted Egypt's military.
Egypt's general prosecution referred to investigation in Feburary fresh complaints against Youssef of insulting the armed forces, the will of the Egyptian people and the "symbols" of both Egypt and its government, thereby threatening the safety and stability of the country.
The prosecutor referred the case to Cairo's appeals prosecution, which is already looking into at least 30 complaints against Youssef since November.
The 39-year-old comedian also faced a probe under ousted president Mohamed Morsi over allegations of insulting the president and Islam.
In a February poll by Baseera an independent Egyptian polling agency 68 percent of respondents aged between 18 and 29 said they liked the show, up from 47 percent in October. The figure for respondents aged over 50 was 35 percent, compared to 22 percent in October.
The show has approximately 8.3 million viewers inside Egypt, Baseera said.
The 2 new frequencies are frequencies:
Viewers can in Egypt, and the Gulf countries

The last time we had jamming of this scale in the MENA region was when the Syrian Civil war was at its peak. Both Aljazeera Arabic and English satellite frequencies were getting jammed by earth stations located in Syria. at the time the oppressive Syrian govt. neither confirmed nor denied their involvement in the signal jamming
But It was clear that their intention was to black out information flow.
This time as kungu1 has explained the culprits is the transitional govt of Egypt no doubt
