African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Mmmmmm ..... Sounds like signs of things to come, .... like Signet moving to a KU-Band TP to speed up digital Migration, ..... just to ensure the competition (Media Owners Association) doesn't roll-out a TP ahead of Signet? ......... Keeping by fingers closed ... !

in a fist? don't be too harsh with baba na mama of kenya broadcasting. be friendly :A S 103:

Kuna jamaa anatoa keys kama zana Nat Geo Wild kwenye mtandao. Kuna moja ningependa kujaribu lakini sipo karibu na mitambo yangu. Naomba aliye karibu na vyombo nimpe kwenye PM ajaribu. Imebidi nitumie lugha yetu nisiwe mwenye maudhi. Mniwie radhi wapendwa. Naomba.

Nitumie nijaribu

Hallo Ph-25,

Arabsat 5c @ 20 degrees East is the easiest satellite to track. In laymans, the c-band dish faces west and you need to insert teflon inside your lnb since polarisation of the frequencies are circular.See the image below

Dielectric Plate.jpg C-band lnbf.JPG

So after inserting your teflon as shown in the picture above, use frequency 4054H, Symbol rate 27500 to track Arabsat 5C. This is the strongest tp to track the satellite easily. Place the C-band dish facing up (sky) and start elevating it downwards towards the west as you monitor the signal quality. Once you hit green, maximize the signal quality and if your satellite decoder has blind scan facility, then do it to track the other frequencies. Irib Varzesh offers football games like EPL, Champions league and Spanish la liga but requires biss keys to open. Irib varzesh frequency is 3964V Symbol rate 30000, F.E.C 2/3, Modulation 8PSK. You can get the biss keys from this link ;New Keys : Biss Key IRIB Varzesh TV 04.04.2013

Happy hunting.

But it surely would not have been FTA? how would they have made their money? And why did they keep this a closely guarded secret, until now when they are 'on the ropes'. The Kenya Press is also handling all of this very badly, few of the reporters have any idea what they are talking about. Bottom line of course is that all of the Kenya broadcast channels, except KBC, are already available FTA on AZAM courtesy of our Tanzania brothers, do you think the CCM of Kenya knows this? You might have to take out a one month Azam subscription, and buy their cheap decoder, to get started, but the Azam web site claims that you will continue to get the 'non Azam' broadcast channels without renewing your viewing card subscription once the subscription expires, which is much more than can be said for D*S*TV or Z*U*K*U.
So PANG ( whose BSD license was revoked) was planning to roll out a Satellite DTH service to allow reach in remote parts of Kenya . mmh.. that would have meant all the DTT channels on one satellite, with strong signal for direct home consumption

This is according to the MD

This is very true, AZAM ni kiboko yao, i also got to learn a few tricks with the decoder on how to add all the other fta channels on 7e. You just add another sat and give it any name you want then add the tps manually and scan. thanks to sat2 i got to watch Gor going down to bandari via globecast feed.
meanwhile in other news the big three media houses secretly launched a sat last night which will broadcast the Kenyan mux fta to all homesteads in the region. The sat is located at 65e and the spot beam is so strong that even a 30 cm dish will do. pics coming up later.

Msondaa, looking at my various "Satellite Search Engines", …. Flysat, Lyngsat, KingofSat, etc., I cannot locate any satellite located at 65 East. Also, no recent news of any upcoming satellite launch on that orbital position. The "Big Three" Media houses failed to raise even the KSh.1 billion or so needed for a DVB-T2 broadcast license. How can they possibly afford to "launch" a satellite costing billions more? Today being first day of April, could this be an "April fools Day" joke? ……..

From the CNBC interview The PANG boss says the satellite service was going to be FTA. just like the terrestrial digital broadcasts.

With their 17 transmitters located across the country coverage is still not 100% . So as a goodwill gesture they were just going to make available the channels on satellite for free as some sort of supplementary service

But as you are now aware ,KTN,NTV Citizen and others don't want their channels carried on competitors platforms without proper consent. and indeed according to the courts of appeal ruling this amounted abuse of intellectual property.

Anyway the stakes are really high in this digital migration matter. Some people have seriously "eaten", briefcase companies got contracts.Companies blocked coz they didnt part with "kitu kikubwa" .. it just gets dirtier

Meanwhile Radio Africa Limited , Owners of Kiss TV,Kiss FM,East FM,Radio Jambo etc has been acquired by South Africa's Times Media Group.

That basically means that the new entrant in this business automatically also acquires the Digital Broadcast license Kiss TV had. This is a license RAL got by acquiring defunct pioneer company called Oxygen Digital TV ODTV.

Have seen an interesting debate on the Guest Channel, let me clear the air. Guest Channel is hosted on a z*k* tp and is owned by z*k*. Its main purpose is to show non paying z*k* subscribers what they are missing out when they default on payment. In Jan it was TLC, Feb it was Discovery science, in March we have enjoyed Box Africa music and a member alerted us that from tommorow 1st April it will be Nat Geo Gold. The point is that it changes every month.

In other news there are two brand new 32 inch sharp TVs being sold for 25k each. They were rejected by a major supermarket for having slight scratches on the body - not screen. PM if intrested.

Looks like D**V has also adopted the "guest" channel strategy. Unfortunately I dont have the TP right now, but blind scan 68.5E KU and enjoy Movie Magic Showcase HD. It scans in under a different name, FXXXX something.
