African Satellite World and Sat Gear

I'm snooping around for a good FTA DVBT2 Decoder for my old lady back in the mashinani for her to watch World cup since she does not own a digital/smart LED Tv. Any leads or reviews will be highly appreciated.

PS: Not G*TV or St***imes

If you are lucky enough the area has reliable coverage by ADN, PANG, Bamba ..etc, then the Bamba box makes alot of sense (Costs around KES 3600 while the ADN is about 4K ) since Ntv will be airing the world cup. My problem with the terrestrial signals however is their unreliability; One moment you are watching your favourite team and the next the signal igone only to reappear after five hours.

I highly suspect the Botswana broadcaster Bntv will be airing the same, given the way they covered the commonwealth games superbly( they had a spare channel devoted to the games). If this happens, then a 90cm dish pointed at 68.5/70.5E with a freesat V7 (costs KES 2399 on Kilimall and autorolls power to view) will do. I currently have one there and with a single basic lnb it delivers a number of the KTN/ related channels (KTN Home, KTN News, Shine, Kass, Kiss, Farmers Bamba Sport) plus about 100 gospel channels. At least they have much longer uptimes than the terrestrial ones, where I live.

Inside the cband lnb there are the two probs, and then there is the small tube that cuts from one side to the other. What's the purpose of that tube? I want to join a C to a Ku to make my own combined C/Ku but that tube cuts across the centre possibly blocking abit of signal to the Ku. If I remove it is that a problem?

Acts as a negative or "ground" contact between the lnb housing and the electronics inside. Removing it will definitely damage your lnb by affecting the ground circuit

On the other hand I would just say don't waste it brother, don't think that you'll kill two birds with a single adjustment(combined lnb.)
You will end up having less to no signal at all on either of the two. Tried that and it didn't work, but if its just for experimentation go ahead, but don't cut the stabilizer, like Freq said.

Yes that's the one in the second photo. However I didn't see any wire going from the circuit board to it. The whole lnb metal casing is earthed hence shouldn't need extra earthing wiring, hence I didn't think the tube had an electric function connected to circuitry unless its to distribute static electric charge.

You see from the M connector where you put the f connector there's only one Central pin connecting to the electronics board.. the positive one.. so how does the negative connection from your box get into the electronics of the lnb?

Its via the casing.. you see from the pic the threaded part of the M connector makes contact with the casing? The " rod" you're asking about then picks that contact from the casing and connects to the electronics board underneath. ( You cant see the connection because its under)

Even the other two prodruding wires H & V probes make contact with the board but you can't see it. But they do connect to the electronics.

apparently to make proper contact, it has to touch the other side of the feed horn also

If the whole of it is earthed as you are saying, then it wouldn't need a special connection to earth it either.. earthing is basically grounding or connecting to the case... So the middle rod wouldn't need to earth it again...

Anyway the it's probably put there for a good reason whichever it is so I wouldn't advice removing it...

"Stabiliser" great! I didn't know its name. As advised by Freq I will leave it alone. I have made a combined C/Ku before with good results. The secret is to make sure the probs in the two lnbs are aligned so that they have the same best skew angle. Only that this time I wanted to be too clever but thought it wise to ask first.

Can 6 ft nab east beam using inverto for prime focus as prime
Location Nyeri
If it is ku band lnb for prime focus dish, give it a try and report it on board. You're on the right side.
