Why it is Time to Leave the USABy Marc Krieger
Any impartial observer knows that, for the overwhelming majority of people, economic conditions in the United States have greatly worsened over the past ten years. Wages have declined, real unemployment is at least 16%, and inflation has eroded the purchasing power of middle class Americans. The ruling regime glosses over this lamentable reality through adroit propaganda, forged economic data that rivals the fraud perpetrated by Enron executives, and euphemistically dubbed policy measures like quantitative easing, whereby the Federal Reserve creates new money out of thin air with which the US government funds its stratospheric deficits.More disconcertingly, the United States is no longer the free country it once was. Instead, the United States has grown into an Orwellian police state that imitates the tyrannical tendencies of the Soviet Union. Consider the following:
- The United States government frames and imprisons political dissidents like constitutional lawyer Edgar Steele, denying him the opportunity to defend himself against fabricated charges.
- The United States government flagrantly and openly violates the Fourth Amendments provision against unreasonable searches and seizures by monitoring telephone and e-mail communications and flying predator drones inside the United States.
- The United States government admits to using paid police informants to infiltrate peaceful activist groups such as anti-immigration or environmental organisations.
- The United States government uses scanners at airports that take nude images of passengers, supposedly in the name of security. Incidentally and in a sign of growing cronyism, the company that produces these scanners paid former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff as a consultant to help lobby his former agency to buy these scanners.
Some Americans steadfastly maintain that they can change the putrid political system by electing new representatives that will bring about the change that most Americans desire. Unfortunately, the current establishment has closed its doors to anyone save for those that belong to the ruling political system or who allow themselves to become marionettes for the ruling oligarchy. For instance, Ron Paul galvanised and inspired millions with his ardent love of liberty and his lifelong history of advocating and supporting measures favouring constitutionally limited government. Regrettably, the system and media vituperatively attacked him at every imaginable opportunity and marginalised him by preventing him from appearing in debates or simply not listing him in opinion polls.
In any event, Americans have no voice or any way to bring about substantive political change within the existing political system. President Kennedy once remarked, Those who make peaceful revolutions impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. Unfortunately, revolutionary activity will quickly land one in prison or end ones life at the hands of the police state. Despite the fact that substantial numbers of Americans are livid at the current state of affairs, many Americans are too apathetic or passive to work for change. Even worse, the ruling elites, millions of government employees, and an underclass of people too lazy to work benefit from the current state of affairs and will vigorously oppose any genuine changes.
This leads one to the inevitable conclusion that leaving the United States for greener pastures abroad is the only viable alternative, just as our forebears immigrated to America. This option is counterintuitive to many Americans because they are accustomed to living in a world in which the United States is the preeminent power and the place to which ambitious foreigners want to go. However, this trend has begun reversing itself in recent years. The inundation of illegal immigration across the Mexican border has receded, with large numbers of Mexican and Latin American nationals returning to their native lands. Additionally, many Americans have begun emigrating in search of better opportunities abroad and surveys show that greater percentages of Americans are strongly considering the option of emigration.
Unfortunately, many Americans remain woefully ignorant about life outside the United States and fail to realise that life abroad is better than it is in the United States in numerous respects. Countless locales exist where economic opportunities abound and where the insidious influence of the government is much less pervasive. Norway has a budget surplus and a sovereign wealth fund of USD $500 billion thanks to its vast oil resources. Singapore has become a magnet attracting wealthy talents such as Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, who renounced his US citizenship to reside in Singapore. Singapore is one of the worlds best run and economically free countries. Other rapidly developing locales in Latin America and Asia have attracted talented Americans in search of new frontiers and opportunities. Still others, like Australia, offer some of the highest wages in the world, spectacular climate, and real economic opportunities. Currently, Australia is undergoing an enormous mining boom meaning that workers without degrees can earn more than $200,000 per year.
