The best man is never a candidate because probably he philosophize a bit much in the Socratic fashion. Those who truly know what it takes to lead a highly indebted developing nation will not toss their hats in the race in a heartbeat (a requirement in our modern politics). Those who do toss their hats in the race in a heartbeat do not understand and/ or care enough about the issues.
The best man is probably some mid level administrator rotting away in some underresourced upcountry government office, or someone running a government agency/ public company but without political clout, connections and the gut to sell his soul to the devil combined with the mouth to kiss azzes in order to climb the political ladder, only to paint the sky blue in anticipation of the realization of personal vanity.
The best man and his breed are dying slowly, leaving us with career politician a.k.a career crook.
Those who can lead, do not. Those who do lead, cannot.
