Claim

A video circulating on social media claims to show a man peeling off layers of tarmac from the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road, suggesting that the Ministry of Works and Transport is carrying out poor-quality road construction.

The footage has raised questions about the quality of materials being used and the standards followed during the construction of the road.

Verdict

In a clarification published on its official X account, the Ministry of Works and Transport said the video did not represent the actual construction works taking place on the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road.

The ministry stated that no asphalt has been laid on the project, contradicting the impression created by the circulating video that completed tarmac was being removed.

According to the ministry, construction works on the 56.3-kilometre road are ongoing. The project had reached the sub-base pavement layer between kilometre 42 and kilometre 45, while earthworks continued on other sections.

The ministry added that its engineering team was monitoring the construction to ensure that the works meet the required standards.

It also urged the public to rely on verified information from official ministry channels when assessing the progress of government infrastructure projects.

The Ministry of Works and Transport says the video does not depict the actual state of construction on the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road. According to the ministry, no asphalt has been laid on the project, which remains under construction, with sub-base pavement works underway on part of the route and earthworks continuing elsewhere.
