Multiple suspects have been arrested over the alleged theft of medicines from the main stores of Kamuli General Hospital, with a vehicle reportedly loaded with recovered drugs intercepted in Kamuli Municipality.

The operation was reportedly supported by Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobiliser Jamiru Watoga and a security team led by the Kamuli District Police Commander (DPC).

According to PLU coordinator Balaam Ateenyi, the suspected stolen medicines were recovered from a private residence in Kamuli Municipality.

Ateenyi said the suspects will be handed over to the State House Health Monitoring Unit and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters for further investigations and case management.

He condemned the alleged theft, saying the diversion of public medicines contributes to shortages, particularly at health facilities in remote areas.

“Public medicines are for the people, not personal gain,” Ateenyi said, warning that anyone found stealing medicines intended for Ugandans would face the law.
