- Kenyan athletes showed their dominance and superiority after scooping medals at the 2021 Boston Marathon held on Monday, October 11.
Diana Kipyogei won the female marathon, clocking in at 2 hours 24 minutes 45 seconds while Benson Kipruto outclassed his competitors in the male marathon by winning gold.
According to the Boston Athletic Association website, both Kipyogei and Kipruto will take home Ksh15 Million prize money.

Edna Kiplagat, who came in second at the female marathon, earned Ksh7.5 Million while third-placed Mary Ngugi took home Ksh4 Million.
The Boston Marathon is regarded as the highest-paid race in North America in the recent past with the top ten athletes taking home over Ksh2 Billion in prize money.
The Dubai Marathon holds the record of being the world's richest road race with the winners getting Ksh20 Million. The event also holds the biggest mass participation event in Middle East with over 20,000 runners taking part in the event.
The Boston Marathon was set to take place last year but had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event is considered among the major marathon races globally. Others include Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York.
In regards to tax collection, the prize money collected by athletes is only taxed by the host country. This was recently confirmed by legendary athletics champion Ezekiel Kemboi who pointed out that the athletes no longer pay taxes in Kenya.
"We are required to pay tax to the host nation. If the games are hosted in Tokyo, you pay Tokyo," he revealed to Kenyans.co.ke
