DETROIT -- Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama and his running mate Sen. Joe Biden spoke at the Detroit Public Library for a campaign rally Sunday.

"We hold in our hands the power to shape the future," said Detroit Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr., during a welcome speech at the rally. "There is only one team out there who can take care of America -- Obama and Biden."

Detroit businesswoman Denise Illitch introduced Obama, Biden and their wives, Michelle and Jill, to the cheering of Detroiters who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the ticket.llitch said she was honored to be introducing "champions for change," as she referred to Obama and Biden.

"It is time to have a partner and friend in the White House, Illitch said.

In the list of earmarks requested by Barack (Hope and Change) Obama, $1 Million was requested for the construction of a new hospital pavilion at the University Of Chicago. The request was put in in 2006.

Michelle Obama is vice president of community affairs at the University of Chicago Hospital. And you won't believe the salary jump she got after Barack was elected to the Senate.

Little wonder that Obama initially refused to release all earmark requests.
