1/: Today, the 28th of July is a public holiday in Uganda, where Citizens are voting to elect Local Council I (LC I) chairpersons and village committees through the traditional lining-up voting system.
Candidates from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), People's Front for Freedom (PFF), other political parties and independents are competing across the country. Police and other security agencies have been deployed nationwide to maintain peace and order, while the Electoral Commission has urged voters to exercise their constitutional right peacefully and warned that electoral offences such as bribery, voter intimidation, impersonation, violence, and vote manipulation will attract criminal prosecution.
