The Uganda Media Centre has announced that Tuesday, July 28, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday to enable Ugandans to participate in the upcoming Local Council (LC) Elections.
In a press release dated July 24, 2026, the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, Alan Kasujja, said the declaration is intended to give citizens ample time to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the nationwide elections.
The public holiday is expected to facilitate wider voter participation in the election of Local Council leaders, who play a key role in community governance and service delivery across the country.
The announcement comes just days before Ugandans head to the polls to elect LC leaders, with the government urging all eligible voters to turn up peacefully and take part in the democratic process.
