Claim
A viral TikTok video posted by Comedian HON DR T-Amale claims that the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and another Organization - TCCU have shut down the TikTok account of National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) for allegedly spreading hate speech. The video also claims that other NUP-affiliated accounts, including @HalfLondon, would also be closed at 6:00AM today , the 17th of July citing the same reason.
What we know
•A review of Bobi Wine's Official Tiktok account shows that it remains active and publicly accessible, with over 3.4 million followers. There is no indication that the account has been suspended or closed.
•The claim also names @HalfLondon, a prominent NUP supporter known for frequently posting content critical of and insulting government officials. However, his TikTok account has also since remained active. In fact, he posted a new video approximately 17 hours before this fact check, including content directed at UCC Executive Director George William Nyombi Thembo.
•While UCC has repeatedly warned social media users against publishing content that constitutes hate speech or violates Uganda's communications laws, there is no official statement from UCC announcing the closure of Bobi Wine's or Half London's TikTok accounts.
Likewise, Bobi Wine has not announced that his account was taken down, and no credible news outlet has reported such action.
•Given Bobi Wine's prominence and the size of his online following, any official closure of his TikTok account would likely attract widespread media coverage.
Verdict: FALSE
The claim that the Uganda Communications Commission has closed Bobi Wine's TikTok account for spreading hate speech is false. His account remains active and accessible, there has been no announcement from UCC, no statement from Bobi Wine, and no credible media reports supporting the claim. The video circulating on TikTok is therefore misleading.
