This action halted an orderly and peaceful election, as evaluated by observer missions from the U.S. Embassy, European Union, Commonwealth, and Southern Africa Development Community, and a tabulation process nearing completion. We call for this announcement to be recalled, and urge all parties to maintain a commitment to a transparent and peaceful democratic process. The people of Zanzibar deserve that.

Serikali ya Marekani imestushwa sana na tamko la hivi karibuni la Mwenyekiti wa Tume ya Uchaguzi ya Zanzibar ambapo ametamka kusudio lake la kufuta matokeo ya uchaguzi wa urais wa Zanzibar. Hatua hii inasitisha mchakato wa uchaguzi uliofanyika vizuri na kwa amani, kama ilivyo elezwa na waangalizi wa uchaguzi kutoka Ubalozi wa Marekani, Jumuiya ya Ulaya, Jumuiya ya Madola na Jumuiya ya Maendeleo ya Nchi za Kusini mwa Afrika pamoja na kusitisha zoezi la majumuisho ya kura lililokuwa linakaribia kukamilika. Tunatoa wito wa kuondolewa kwa tamko hilo na kuzisihi pande zote kudhamira kwa dhati kuukamilisha mchakato huu wa kidemokrasia kwa uwazi na kwa Amani. Watu wa Zanzibar wanastahili jambo hilo.
