The South Korean government announced on Wednesday that it plans to invest over 1.2 trillion won ($900 million) in artificial intelligence development in 2024.

The investment is part of the government's efforts to make digital technology a part of everyone's life and to position South Korea as a global leader in AI.

Where will $900M be used?
The government will use its investment to support the development of AI technologies and services across a range of sectors, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation. It also plans to revise relevant regulations, including copyright laws, to remove barriers to innovation.

The planned investment is 20% higher than the budget allocated for AI development in 2023.

In addition to directly investing in AI development, the government also plans to expand the budget for the fund of funds (FoF) supporting venture capital and startups to 1 trillion won ($700 million).

The new investment is also expected to help the country create new jobs and businesses.
