In Dar, people build good (real) houses without following the city master plan, mainly because of corrupt practices of officials at land ministry. However, this unplanned construction is no where near to the magnitude of your proper slums in Kenya....

Tanzania has the third highest slum growth rate in Africa, over 6% per year, and the sixth largest slum population. With over 6 million people living in slums, slum dwellers make up more than two-thirds of its urban population. Other UN reports estimate that in fact 92% of Tanzania's urban population live in slum conditions – more than 11 million people – which would make it the third largest slum population in Africa.

In recent years, the government has carried out numerous evictions, leaving tens of thousands of poor households without shelter, water and sanitation, and often livelihoods.
People living in Tanzania's slums often lack secure tenure, clean water and basic services, and the rapid growth of slums has seen water and sanitation coverage regress in many areas. Pit latrines, the most common form of sanitation, are poorly constructed and often collapse during the rainy season. Health is a common problem: according to the World Health Organisation, 6% of Tanzanian adults live with HIV/AIDS, increasing to 11% in urban areas. Antiretroviral drugs are often unavailable and unaffordable for the poorest, who also suffer from significant stigma and discrimination, as HIV/AIDS remains a taboo subject. The HIV/AIDS pandemic presents unique challenges in slum communities, notably due to the speed of transmission and unsanitary conditions, resulting in low health levels and severe poverty.

Ndugu!, tunaposema unplanned or informal, or slums settlements, hatumaanishi jambo lile yakuwa ni makao duni au tunataka kujificha nyuma ya maneno ndio tuonekane kustawi? hapo bantugbro ana sema kibera inajulikana duniani kote. Si ajabu kwa sababu pamoja kujulikana kisiasa, kiuchumi na kimaendeleo ni lazima pia zile sehemu duni katika nchi zionekane. Shida ni kwamba kukataa kwamba asilimia 62 ya watu wa tanzania wanaishi katika makao duni, ni ishara tosha hamjifahamu wala mnajikana wenyewe.

mimi sizungushi maneno.... naongea kitaalam...... huwezi sema hii ni slum wakati kuna a difference of cross-sectional value of premises over a given locality....... kwa mfano manzese kuna nyumba zenye thamani ndogo sana kama US$ 10,000 (land + fabrics combined) na pia kuna nyumba zenye thamani zaidi ya US$ 350,000 (land + fabrics combined)... and this is the trend through out the country...... (buildings of different values over the area) sasa bwana mzarendo ukiwa na settlements za aina hiyo huwezi ita slums.....
ninayekuambia nimefanya utafiti hapo kibera, na maeneo kadhaa ya afrika..... kwa hiyo ninachoongea ni sahihi...

Without Indians all the countries in East Africa would be full of slums. Modern buildings in Dar, Nairobi or Kampala are owned by Indians. So there is no point in arguing about which country has more slums.

Conversion of family houses into single room multi family accomodation is common practice in most Tanzanian towns and has somehow slowed slum growth.

Ujenzi wa makazi unaendeshwa kiholela sana - bila fikira ya mifumo ya maji wala umeme. Maelekezo yaliyopo yamejikita zaidi kwenye mipaka - na sio aina ya nyumba katika eneo wala miundo mbinu iliyopo.

Nadhani kampuni za ujenzi, zikishirikiana na taasisi ya umma lazima ikae chini na kuweelewa tutaendeleza ama kujenga vipi miji. Wale wataalamu wa mipango miji watumike vizuri

So what? Just because majority of Indians live in rented government houses (which I doubt), it does not necessarily mean most modern buildings are not owned by Indians. There is an error in your logic.
