Private schools lead in Form II exam results Sunday, 23 January 2011 21:52

Dar es Salaam. The 2010 Form Two examination results show that most public secondary schools have performed poor while private secondary schools dominated the top ten.

The results released covertly by the government have shown that the performance of public schools in general is far beyond expectations.

Thomas More, Feza, Lilian Kibo, Canossa, St Joseph Millennium and Pius private secondary schools in Dar es Salaam are among the 10 best performing schools.

Others in the top ten out of 294 secondary schools are Alpha, Barbro Jahansson and Tusiime secondary schools.

Investigations by The Citizen show that the results have been released covertly since last week and most of the schools already know their positions.

According to the results, public secondary schools start featuring from 34th position. Pugu Secondary School ranked 34th followed by Kisutu and Azania at 35th and 37th positions respectively.

The results show that Thomas More Secondary School lead the score chat with 740 points, equivalent to 82 per cent of the total examination results.

It is followed by Feza Boys, Feza Girls, Canossa, St Joseph Millennium and Pius. Lilian Kibo Secondary School scooped 649 points, equivalent to 82 per cent, going up 20 positions from 2009.

The results showed that government-owned secondary schools named after renowned personalities did not perform well. They include Benjamin William Mkapa (50th), Mama Salma Kikwete (75th) and Madiba (Nelson Mandela) at 63 position.

Other poorly performing schools are Kibugumo in Temeke District with 151 points, equivalent to 17 per cent, Temeke Muslim, Emet, Pugu Station, George Washington, Mpiji Majohe, Kwetu, Kimbiji and Nguva secondary schools.

However, the results will not affected students who have performed below the average as the government has allowed them to proceed with Form Three studies.

MATOKEO ya Mtihani wa Taifa wa kidato cha pili wa mwaka 2010, Kanda ya Dar es Salaam yametangazwa, huku shule binafsi zikiongoza na zile za Serikali zikitupwa nyuma kwa umbali mrefu.

Matokeo hayo yaliyotolewa mwishoni mwa wiki iliyopita na Wizara ya Elimu na Mafunzo ya Ufundi yameacha maswali magumu kuhusu mstakabali wa shule za Serikali ambazo, pamoja na kuendeshwa kwa gharama kubwa za kodi za wananchi, hazitoi matumaini kwamba huenda zikafanya vizuri katika siku za karibuni kama zilivyo shule binafsi.

Inasikitisha kuona kuwa hakuna shule ya Serikali iliyoingia katika "kumi bora" kati ya shule 294 zilizoingia katika mpambano huo wa mtihani wa kidato cha pili uliofanyika mwaka jana.
Baya zaidi ni kwamba shule kongwe zilizokuwa vinara nchini, zikiwamo Jangwani, Pugu, Azania, Mzizima, Zanaki na Kisutu hazimo katika "30 bora". Wakati Pugu imechukua nafasi ya 34, Kisutu imekuwa ya 35 na Azania imetwaa nafasi ya 37. Jangwani imechukua nafasi ya 45, Mzizima imekalia nafasi ya 50, wakati Zanaki imetwaa nafasi ya 56.

Bila shaka hatuhitaji wataalamu wa ngazi ya uprofesa kuweza kufanya tafsiri sahihi ya matokeo hayo ambayo ni dhahiri yameidhalilisha Serikali.
Yeyote ambaye amekuwa akifuatilia kwa karibu mifumo na maendeleo ya shule za msingi, sekondari na ufundi katika kipindi cha miaka 20 iliyopita, atakubaliana nasi kuwa mamlaka zinazosimamia shule hizo zimeshindwa kabisa kuasisi mifumo endelevu ya kuinyanyua elimu ya msingi na sekondari kufikia viwango vinavyokubalika.

Bahati mbaya Serikali ilidhani kuwa inatosha tu kuzipa shule zake upendeleo maalumu kama kuzifutia ada ya mitihani, huku ikizishikisha adabu shule binafsi kwa kuzibana kwa kila hali, ikiwamo kuzinyima ruzuku na misaada nyingine kama vitabu, vifaa vya maabara na vyombo vya usafiri. Serikali ingewapa mazingira mazuri walimu wanaofundisha katika shule zake, zikiwamo nyumba za kuishi, mafunzo, mishahara mizuri na vifaa vya kufundishia ili wapate motisha na moyo wa kufanya kazi.

Mazingira ya walimu na wanafunzi katika shule binafsi zilizoibuka katika "kumi bora" na hata katika "20 bora" katika Kanda ya Dar es Salaam na kanda nyingine zilizofanya mtihani huo wa kidato cha pili yanawezesha wanafunzi na walimu kufanya vizuri. Ni mazingira yanayovutia walimu kutoka katika shule za Serikali na kujiunga na shule binafsi ambazo zinathamini taaluma na ustadi wao, hivyo kuwapatia mafao kulingana na ushindi na sifa wanazoziletea shule hizo.

Tukiangalia shule zilizoibuka "kumi bora", zikiwamo St Thomas More, Feza Boys, Feza Girls, Barbro Johansson, Alpha na St Joseph Millenium, tutagundua kuwa walimu wanafundisha kwa uwezo wao wote kwa sababu kiwango cha wanafunzi kushinda katika mitihani yao ndicho hasa kinachoamua kiwango cha mafao na mishahara ya walimu hao. Ndio maana katika shule hizo binafsi, walimu wanafundisha hata usiku na siku za mapumziko. Tatizo moja tu ni kwamba ni watoto ambao wazazi wao wana uwezo kifedha ndio wanaoweza kumudu ada zinazotozwa na shule hizo.

Hali hiyo sio nzuri kwa umoja wetu, kwani wengi wa wahitimu wa shule hizo binafsi sio tu kwamba ndio watakaoweza kuendelea na masomo ya juu, bali pia ndio watakaokuwa na sifa za kupata mikopo kutoka katika mamlaka zinazotoa mikopo hiyo.

Pamoja na kuwapo lawama kuwa mikopo inatolewa kwa watoto wa matajiri, wengi wa wanaopata madaraja ya juu katika mitihani mbalimbali wanatoka katika shule za sekondari binafsi, ambao ushindi wao ndicho kigezo kikubwa kinachotumiwa na mamlaka hizo zinazotoa mikopo.

Ili kuondokana na hali hiyo ya shule za Serikali kusuasua, lazima serikali hiyo ikubali kwamba kuna tatizo.
Sekondari za kata ni mfano wa tatizo linalotusibu kama taifa. Sisi tunasema kuwa kunahitajika mapinduzi makubwa katika sekta ya elimu. Tusipofanya hivyo, tutabaki kuwa taifa la wajinga.


 
Tukiangalia shule zilizoibuka "kumi bora", zikiwamo St Thomas More, Feza Boys, Feza Girls, Barbro Johansson, Alpha na St Joseph Millenium, tutagundua kuwa walimu wanafundisha kwa uwezo wao wote kwa sababu kiwango cha wanafunzi kushinda katika mitihani yao ndicho hasa kinachoamua kiwango cha mafao na mishahara ya walimu hao. Ndio maana katika shule hizo binafsi, walimu wanafundisha hata usiku na siku za mapumziko. Tatizo moja tu ni kwamba ni watoto ambao wazazi wao wana uwezo kifedha ndio wanaoweza kumudu ada zinazotozwa na shule hizo.
Hali hiyo sio nzuri kwa umoja wetu, kwani wengi wa wahitimu wa shule hizo binafsi sio tu kwamba ndio watakaoweza kuendelea na masomo ya juu, bali pia ndio watakaokuwa na sifa za kupata mikopo kutoka katika mamlaka zinazotoa mikopo hiyo.
Tatizo ya hoja hizi za madongo kuinama ni kuwa Mwenyezi Mungu alitupa sote vipaji sawa jambo ambalo siyo kweli...................mfumo huu wa elimu ya kikoloni unafunika na kutovitendea haki vipaji vingi vya watanzania kwa kusisitiza sote tuwe na ujuzi unaofanana wakati sehemu kubwa ya ujuzi huo kamwe soko la ajira haliuhitaji na hivyo tunapoteza nguvu nyingi kwa mambo ambayo hayana tija kwa jamii....................
