Dar es Salaam could soon be transformed into the Dubai of Africa.
After awarding a contract to operate part of the port of Dar es Salaam to a Dubai-based firm, the country has now picked another UAE company to operate it's bus rapid transit system in commercial hub Dar es Salaam.
The executive director of the government's PPP Centre, David Kafulila, said the state-run Dar Rapid Transit (DART) will sign an agreement next month with Emirates National Group (ENG) for the Dubai firm to operate Phase 1 of the bus rapid transit.ENG could be awarded more phases of the bus rapid transit system in Dar es Salaam if the first phase of its operations proves successful, Kafulila told Tanzanian newspaper The Guardian.
Dar es Salaam's bus rapid transit network, which is being built in phases by World Bank loans, has been underperforming due to poor management of services.Dubai's ENG currently operates public transport services in the UAE and Egypt, with a fleet of more than 1,000 buses.
The company's group CEO, Ahmed Abood Al Yafei (pictured), has over three decades of experience in the transportation industry. With air conditioned bus stops and a fleet of modern, efficient and clean buses, Dubai has one of the world's best public bus transport services.
Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania that receives about 1 million tourists a year, has hired Dubai's dnata, one of the world's largest air services providers, to run its airport.Dubai-based ports giant DP World was last year awarded a deal to operate 8 berths at Tanzania's main port of Dar es Salaam.
Dubai is home to the world's busiest airport and world class port facilities, setting a global standard in logistics and infrastructure.Tanzania will be hoping that the Dubai-based companies will bring some of the world-class efficiency to the East African nation.Improved infrastructure services will enhance the quality of life for more than 6 million residents of Dar es Salaam and also bring more tourists and investors to the country.

We shida yako si upate usafiri?
