The Mbappe plan is still on track​

It's unstoppable, the countdown is on and, while the glass could be half-full or half-empty depending upon who you ask, the plan is still on track. Kylian Mbappe still hasn't renewed his contract despite Paris Saint-Germain's attempts to throw money at him, making a move to Real Madrid a real possibility.

In Qatar, they already know that the world champion wanted to wear the white of Real Madrid this season. Mbappe's possible arrival has gone from a footballing matter to a matter of state, although it could seem the opposite.

In the modern era of Real Madrid, since 2000 to today, no other operation has been so carefully looked after, planned, thought out and executed in detail like this one.

For example, Zinedine Zidane arrived at Real Madrid a year after famously signing a napkin, but those months involved movements, negotiations and situations which are totally different to those of the French striker at PSG.

Juventus negotiated for Zidane, just as Inter did for Ronaldo and Manchester United did for David Beckham.

Ever since Florentino Perez's famous "don't worry" to Josep Pedrerol in April, the club have been on alert to make sure that no one could do anything to jeopardise the most complicated signing of his presidency.

Only two men in negotiations​

Real Madrid haven't wanted anyone or anything to interfere with the operation, which consists of only two spokespeople, the president of Real Madrid and the Emir of Qatar.

Tamim Bin Hamad Al Zani is the man who would give the green light to the move, which would allow Perez to act, but there are no intermediaries or external pressures as used in other deals.

In the past few months, nobody at Real Madrid or in their name has tried to get closer to PSG, despite the efforts of many agents, who have all been turned away.

They all know that everything depends on one phone call, with no need for a circus around the Parisian club, as Real Madrid aim to avoid angering their counterparts.

Since March, everyone at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has known that there is only one signing in mind for the club and Mbappe is the only target.


No one could put his wish to become the leader of the new project at risk, so the board have acted swiftly to deny any rumours or to distance themselves from Mino Raiola's actions with Erling Haaland.

They wanted Mbappe to see that Real Madrid would be his home and that he is the chosen one.

That's what has led to the Frenchman rejecting all other offers that have come his way, patiently waiting for the chance to communicate his desire to join Real Madrid this season to those in charge at PSG.

He has now done that and, like everyone, he is waiting for the reaction of the Emir of Qatar to see if negotiations will begin.

The countdown has begun and all movements are going according to the plan laid out by the Spanish club.

They've done their part and respected PSG as much as possible, while the forward has rejected a contract extension while knowing that his existing deal ends in 10 months.

Not even the arrival of Lionel Messi has been able to change his mind. Mbappe's departure is close
