Nine caught with albino organs
By Herman Meza, Shinyanga
THE CITIZEN
Police in Shinyanga region are holding nine residents of Bariadi district who were allegedly found with a head and legs of an albino.
The body organs are believed to be of an elderly albino, who was murdered last week. His body, according to acting regional police commander, Mr Charles Nyanda, was abandoned in a pond.
The head and legs of the fateful resident of Nkindabiye village in the district, Lyaku Willy, 50, were recovered from a makeshift tomb. One of the suspects led the investigators to the bush where they had buried the parts.
The acting regional police commander, however, declined to name the suspects, contending that the move jeopardise the ongoing investigations.
So far, more detectives have been deployed in bariadi from Shinyanga Municiplaity to beef up the investigation, which was progressing well.
More suspects believed to be in the network of the contract killers in the region were being revealed by their colleagues during interrogation, MrNyanda said.
He said the suspects had decided to bury the albino body organs after their customers failed to show up to collect the consignment as agreed earlier.
The customers were expected from Kahama district in the region and Bukoba Municipality in Kagera rgion.
The suspects said they were communicating with their customers through mobile phones.
Meanwhile, parents and guardians with albino children in Bukombe district in the region have asked the Government to provide their children with protection while at school.
The disabled pupils were vulnerable to the spate of the
witchcraft-associated killings of albino in the country, and now fear even to venture out of their homes.
Their children were no longer interested in going to school after hearing that contract killers were looking for their body parties.
