Three members of the same family have been killed and others injured during an aggravated robbery attack at their home in Kagasha Cell, Nkungu Parish, Kazo District.
The victims, identified as Ntegyerize Afusa, 47, Tumuramye Sudais, 14, and Nuwandinda Asifa, 11, were attacked at their home on the night of Friday, September 25, according to Rwizi Region Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira.
Police said the attackers targeted the family after receiving information that the head of the household had received Shs1.5 million and kept the money at home.
According to SP Kasasira, the suspects gained access through a back door that had not been properly secured before heading to the bedroom where the family members were sleeping.
The assailants allegedly used a hammer, panga and walking stick during the attack, killing three people, injuring others and stealing the money.
Police deployed a sniffer dog at the scene, which picked up a scent that led detectives to a suspect identified as Nuwamanya Christopher. Police said Christopher subsequently led them to his alleged accomplices, Nuwamanya Micheal and Asiimwe Abel.
Searches at the suspects' residences also led to the recovery of several valuable exhibits believed to be connected to the incident. The exhibits are being secured for forensic examination.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while the injured victims are receiving treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to a government mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
