A video clip has been circulating online claiming to show President Museveni warning CNN journalist Larry Madowo “not to set foot in Uganda during next year’s general election, or he will face the fire.”
Verdict: AI-Altered
A thorough investigation by JamiiCheck revealed that the audio in the video was manipulated using AI to mislead the public.
The video was not recorded in 2025. It was originally published on November 6, 2023, on the YouTube channel UG Files, where President Museveni was interviewed by the German press. The title of the original video is “HARD TALK: GERMANY PRESS ASKS MUSEVENI TOUGH QUESTIONS | WISE RESPONSE.”
In the interview, President Museveni was asked various questions, including about his regime, how he was once viewed as a hero by the people and why he is now seen by some as an autocratic leader. He responded to these questions during the discussion.
JamiiCheck also used AI and deepfake detection tools, which indicated that approximately 82% of the circulating clip is likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.
