Mramba case set to resume September 3
Rosemary Mirondo
The Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court will resume hearing of a case of abuse of office and occasioning a loss of 11bn/- facing former cabinet ministers Basil Mramba, Daniel Yona and Treasury permanent secretary, Gray Mgonja on September 3.
The case was adjourned by Resident Magistrate Aloyce Katemana. He said the case was before a panel of three magistrates John Utamwa, Sam Rumanyika and Saul Kinemela, while being led by senior state attorney Fredrick Manyanda.
Principal state attorney Fredrick Manyanda said the case was coming up for mention so that the court could set up a date for the next hearing.
In view of that, he asked the court to set another hearing date before the case was adjourned.
Responding, Katemana said the hearing would resume next month and ordered the prosecution to prepare their witnesses because the case would go on for four consecutive days.
In the case, former Finance minister Basil Mramba and his Energy counterpart Daniel Yona are charged alongside Gray Mgonja with an abuse of office that caused the government to suffer 11bn/- loss.
Alex Stewart Assayers was paid an average of 1.3bn/- every month from June 2003 to August 2007.
