A laboratory technician at Lugoba Health Centre III in Moyo District has been charged with obtaining money by false pretence after allegedly collecting millions of shillings from people seeking government jobs.

Amegovu Richard was arraigned in court on Wednesday following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Criminal Investigations Directorate and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. He was remanded until 26 August 2026.

Investigators allege that between 2023 and 2024, Amegovu and other suspects who are still at large collected between Shs3 million and Shs10 million from several job applicants in Moyo Town Council.

The applicants allegedly paid the money after being promised positions as Enrolled Nurses and Clinical Officers under Moyo District Local Government.

Investigators say the promised jobs were never secured because the claims were allegedly false.

The case follows complaints received from residents during the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, spearheaded by Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.

The Anti-Corruption Unit says investigations into the allegations are continuing and has urged members of the public to report suspected corruption through established channels.
