The charges follow investigations into the district’s 2024/2025 financial year programme, which allegedly involved construction contracts awarded to companies owned by or linked to district officials and payments processed without proper verification of completed works.
Investigators are also examining allegations that classroom blocks built by communities were presented as newly completed government projects, raising questions about project accountability, the extent of work delivered and possible loss of public funds.
Mwumvaneza faces additional charges over the alleged misappropriation of Shs8,252,200 advanced for commissioning education projects. He is also accused of making a false entry indicating attendance at a commissioning event and instructing officials to pay allowances for commissioning activities that allegedly did not take place.
The case was brought by the Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
