A total of 63 government employees from Rukungiri District and Rukungiri Municipality have been interdicted over allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public funds.
The interdictions were announced during an anti-corruption campaign rally organised by the Ministry of Local Government at Rukungiri District Main Stadium. The campaign was led by Minister Balaam Barugahara, while the interdiction notices were read by State House anti-corruption lawyer Samuel Sebikaari.
Barugahara said the interdictions would allow investigations into alleged misconduct and help strengthen accountability, improve service delivery and ensure government programmes are implemented as intended.
He also directed the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure parish chiefs accused of collecting money from beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) are arrested and removed from office.
Among those interdicted in Rukungiri District are District Water Engineer Deus Twekwase, District Education Officer Jackson Turyahumura, District Engineer Julius Bagyira and Senior Procurement Officer Godwin Murekyezi.
In Rukungiri Municipality, those affected include Municipal Education Officer Robert Agume, Municipal Engineer Merynah Kekiijo, former Town Clerk Robert Niwamanya and Municipal Town Clerk Isaiah Tumwesigye.
The interdictions are administrative measures intended to facilitate investigations and do not establish guilt. The affected employees are entitled to respond through the relevant administrative and legal processes.
