Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has said his bitterness and feud with Governor hopeful Peter Kenneth is personal.

He says this emanated from the 2013 general election where Kenneth did not back President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kenneth at that time contested the presidency through the Kenya National Congress party, emerging fourth.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, Sonko said he will not step down in favour of the former Gatanga MP.

The latter is being fronted to fight it out with Governor Evans Kidero of ODM under the Jubilee Party ticket.

Sonko has also expressed interest in the seat, and presented his nomination papers for the same on Friday last week.

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru also presented her papers for clearance to vie through JP.

"I have a lot of bitterness with this guy. He should have a rally and apologise to me, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and my wife for the tears we shed," Sonko said.

"I am not going to accept Kenneth as my running mate or to be his deputy. Let him feel our pain in 2013 when he did not support President Uhuru Kenyatta."

The legislator said he is also not ready for boardroom negotiations over the JP ticket.

Sonko has on many instances criticised Kenneth for joining the Nairobi governor race, referring to the latter as a 'foreigner'.

The senator, who was visibly agitated during the interview, said JP will not allow power brokers to blackmail the president ahead of the August 8 polls.

"I will do anything to safeguard Uhuru’s presidency. We will not accept this guy....I will fight you to the end," Sonko said.

"Why should we have politicians who have already been rejected by the people?" he asked.

"But let them know that the dark days are over, where politicians were intimidated by so-called ‘powerful individuals."

Sonko further said he cannot criticise the government over the 'resistance' towards his application for a certificate of good conduct.

Last week, Sonko complained of being frustrated by the DCI in his quest to be issued with the document - one of the requirements for nominations.

On Thursday, he alleged a plot by Jubilee to lock him out of the primaries.

"People fighting me are within the government and I cannot criticise it. I will not allow any nonsense. We know the distance we have gone through," he said.

Sonko accused Interior PS Karanja Kibicho of giving directives to DCI officers so that he is denied the certificate.

"He is the one who told the detectives not to release my certificate of good conduct. He can go to hell," Sonko said during the interview.

"I will die with Uhuru. I will fight these people internally. I will cane them one by one. I will not leave my president," he said.

Sonko, who vowed to win the Nairobi JP nominations, said issues being raised over his academic certificates can be verified by the relevant bodies.

"I will not lose the ticket. I used to be the biggest thief...those who claim they will steal the election should know that their politics have been overtaken by events."

"I am as clean as an angel. I was cleared to vie in Makadara, why the hurdles now?" he asked.

On March 5, the former Gatanga MP told off Sonko for "epic hooliganism" and "gangster politics".

Kenneth said he and Sonko are not in the same competition.

"A lot of times we get provoked and people say, Why don't you respond? Why don't you react? And I keep saying, if we react to foolish acts, people will not notice the difference. We will confuse the fraternity more," Kenneth said.

Mike Sonko has apologised for his behaviour on national TV on Sunday, when he referred to Peter Kenneth as "an albino or whatever" and a criminal.

In an interview with Citizen TV, the Nairobi lashed out at the former Gatanga MP saying their feud was personal.

"I'm not ready for consensus with this person (Kenneth). We know what he did in 2013...he refused to step down for my boss," he said.

"Let him feel what we felt at that time...I will not accept it even if he steps down to become my running mate."

The Senator accused various people of frustrating his Nairobi governor bid and used abusive words against fellow politicians.

He barely allowed host Hussein Mohamed to ask questions as he took control of the session.

But he apologised via Twitter on Monday saying he was angry.

"My opponent aliniita hooligan in public...wenzake wakaniita mbwa ndani ya kanisa," he said.

This loosely translates to: "My opponent called me a hooligan in public and the others he was with called me a dog in church."

Kenyans on social media scolded Sonko for his behaviour some saying it was uncalled for.

Allan Paton‏ said: "It is unfortunate that Mike Sonko could refer to Peter Kenneth as an albino. This shows his contempt for albinos."

Edward Meeme said the Senator made so much noise that he could hear him on TV station K24.

"Our beloved Hussein Mohamed, Sonko is disgrace to Sunday Live. Next time, spare your time by inviting Miguna Miguna, the people's choice," a user identified as Jeff Miguna Koinange said.

Miguna, who will also vie for governor, wrote: "I've just watched the most disgraceful TV interview between the primitive Mike Sonko and Mohamed. How low can the cartel media go?"

Other users jokingly told the presenter to take painkillers after the drama that unfolded during the interview.

"You'll need it more than Sonko with his [chewing] gum," Mercy Pheona said, while Monicah Wambua‏ said the host should get an allowance for the "tough" interview.

Sonko has been opposed to Kenneth's entry to the race to take over from Governor Evans Kidero.

He said during the interview that the politician should apologise to him, Mama Ngina Kenyatta and his wife "for the tears we shed".

"I am not going to accept Kenneth as my running mate or to be his deputy. Let him feel our pain in 2013 when he did not support President Uhuru Kenyatta," he said.

Stop sideshows, focus on what has failed in Nairobi - Kenneth

Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth

Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth yesterday urged his rivals to stop squabbling and instead focus on what has “miserably failed in Nairobi”.

He wants to unseat Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

Kenneth said the quarrels will not address the blunders of “a failed regime”.

“Let us leave sideshows and look at what has failed Nairobi. A lot has failed and that is why we are saying the current regime of Odhiambo Kidero should leave,” he said.

Kenneth said Nairobi residents need to stay in an environment-friendly city, something the current regime has not done.“This is why I’m saying the current regime has failed miserably, failed, failed kabisa and it must go home,” he said.

Kenneth said garbage is one of the easiest things to deal with in Nairobi, but “every other street and any other road is now full of garbage”.

He dismissed claims that he and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko are quietly and silently strategising on how to work together.

“If there were any talks, I would have told you. I’m not aware but there are processes and I have been clear with these processes. It can be through consensus or nominations and we are ready for both”.

Kenneth downplayed the simmering row over who will get the ticket, terming it “internal democracy.”

“The enmity is not within Jubilee, the enemy is outside there. I have been very clear on this, that in Jubilee we can have a consensus or we can have nomination. We are ready for both,” he said.

Kenneth spoke at the House of Grace Church in Nairobi West. Some Jubilee leaders have ganged up against Kenneth’s bid to unseat Kidero.

Sonko, nominated MP Johnson Sakaja and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru have been working together in an attempt to unseat Kidero. Kenneth said he does not have a problem with them.

South C MCA Diana Kapeen and other aspirants eyeing various seats accompanied Kenneth.

He also denied claims that most people who associate with him come from his community.

“I have the majority of MPs supporting me, who are in Jubilee, I have a majority of MCAs, who are in Jubilee.”

Kenneth added, “Nairobi is not tribal, Nairobi is for all tribes and communities that is what we want to strengthen. I have grown up in this city devoid of tribalism.”

I watched the interview and I was like..........................This guy is nuts!

disgraceful that somebody in a position of leadeship can
1. show contempt for a section of society, just goes to show the true nature of his opinions which are at a huge variance with so called manifesto they are elected on.Most kenyan politrickicians speak from the sides of their moutgs.
2. think that others have no right to contest elections besides themselves.shows his flawed understanding of democracy and he thinks elected leaders are kings.
3. a clever and subtle attempt by kenneth to portray the kidero administration as having 'failed' Nairobians ,a line commonly used by politicians from central kenya when attacking leaders who hail from outside their region and who don't toe their line. Another similar line to this is ' ameleta maendeleo gani kwao?' ,when infact they ignore completely and utterly the said leaders achievements.Par examplement, Gov Nanok has made huge strides in water provision and school enrolment for kids(there has been an unprecedented rise in school going kids unheard of since independence). How do you ask someone to defend himself from a false assertion?

Wrong on so many levels.

And then some.
