No sibling rivalry for twins

Rafael da Silva says he will be happy for his twin brother, Fabio, if he is selected for this weekend's Champions League final clash with Barcelona.

One of the most intriguing selection dilemmas for Sir Alex Ferguson centres around his starting right-back at Wembley, with the twins and John O'Shea all in contention.

After nailing down the position for the bulk of this season, Rafael has been usurped by Fabio and O'Shea in recent weeks, but the more experienced da Silva twin says everyone is benefiting from the increased competition.

"I think it's always important to have rivalry," he says. "That makes us better football players. I think it's me, my brother Fabio and John O'Shea fighting for the same place.

"I'll be very happy for Fabio if he gets picked. I'll be sad for myself if I'm not playing but I'll be feeling happy for him. It's difficult for us to be competing for the same position but at the same time it's good. It helps us grow as players.
"I think I'm much more aggressive than him. He's much calmer than me. I get much more nervous when he's playing. I'm not sure why this happens but it does!"

The twins' potential involvement at Wembley is, according to Rafael, further validation of their decision to move to England in order to further their careers.

Owen primed for 'perfect final'

Michael Owen admits it would be a dream to score on Saturday against Barcelona, in a game he describes as "the perfect final".

The Reds striker, who netted United's last goal of the 2010/11 domestic campaign against Blackpool at Old Trafford, has never played in a Champions League final. He's not convinced he'll start this one, either, but insists he'll be ready should he be called upon from the bench.
"We have such a good squad here so we'll have to wait and see [if I feature]. But if I'm on the bench and I'm brought on then I'd love to score, obviously. But I've got to get on the bench first before I can even think about getting on the pitch.
"It doesn't frustrate me [starting so few games]. If I was at a smaller club then I'd never be involved in any big games. At least here at United I've got a chance of playing in them."

Games don't come much bigger than United and Barcelona in a European Cup final.
"It's a cracking game," Owen said. "If you look at European football then you'd say it's the ideal final. I think the purists and the neutrals would probably say Barcelona and United are the best two teams in Europe right now. It's the perfect final."

Park hoping for home comforts

Ji-sung Park is hoping the home factor will come into play when United take on Barcelona on English soil this Saturday.
Sir Alex's champions have been unbeatable at Old Trafford all season and obviously the Champions League final at Wembley will feel like a home game against Spanish opposition.

After United lifted the trophy for the first time in 1968 at the famous old stadium, the South Korean feels that fate could be on the Reds' side in 2011, even though Barca also won their first European Cup under the old Twin Towers.
"It is in England so Barcelona are the away team," asserted Park. "We have played many times at Wembley so that makes us feel at home and hopefully we can continue our good home record.

"If I play and we win the game, it will be fantastic for me. It is my dream. I have to play 100 percent for my dreams to come true. Missing out on one final and losing another makes me more eager to play and win this game."

Park believes United are in better shape than when Barcelona ran out 2-0 victors in Rome a couple of years ago.
"They have changed a couple of players from 2009 but their style has not changed," he added. "For us, we have changed as well. I don't know what way we will play but we have to show a difference from 2009.

Dimitar's Golden Boot delight

After holding the Premier League trophy aloft, Dimitar Berbatov has now got his hands on a personal trophy for his efforts during the title-winning campaign.

The Bulgarian's 20 goals were enough to share top spot in the scorers' chart with City's former Red Carlos Tevez and pick up the Golden Boot award from Barclays.
In a season where the classy striker hit three hat-tricks, including an incredible five-goal show against Blackburn, the prize is certainly well merited.

"On a personal level I'm delighted to win this award," he told ManUtd.com. "To finish as the joint-top scorer in the best league in the world is a huge honour and something I'll always be very proud of. I love scoring goals and providing entertainment for the fans – I hope I've done that this season.

"Most importantly, though, I feel happy knowing that my goals helped the team win the league. We made history this season by winning the title for the 19th time and it was a great feeling to be involved in that achievement. Individual awards are fine, but they mean nothing if you don't win trophies as well.

"I want to thank the United fans for their support and, of course, my team-mates, who make it very easy for me to enjoy my time here and score goals."

United started the month with a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal but have won three of the four games since, the other being the draw at Blackburn that clinched the record-breaking 19th league title. Of course, United didn't concede a goal on the road in the Champions League en route to Wembley. Barcelona have won only two of their five fixtures in May but the Spanish title has effectively been in the bag for some time. The entire first team was rested for the final match, a 3-1 win at Malaga.

Ins and outs
Despite all the options open to the boss, things look pretty cut and dried, barring any last-minute surprises from the boss. Darren Fletcher may not be considered fit enough while the right-back slot could go to Fabio, Rafael or John O'Shea. Javier Hernandez looks set to start alongside Wayne Rooney with Antonio Valencia tipped to get the nod ahead of Nani. Barca have to finalise their defensive line-up with the smart money on Carles Puyol being fit in time to partner Gerard Pique with the left-back role going to Adriano, Maxwell or Eric Abidal.

Last meeting
Nobody from Old Trafford needs any reminding about the 2009 Champions League final. Sir Alex has always insisted he knows what went wrong on the night but has kept his thoughts private. In truth, the Reds were the better side before Samuel Eto'o opened the scoring but Barca deserved the 2-0 win with Lionel Messi heading the clincher.

Carrick relishes Wembley clash

United midfielder Michael Carrick speaks to ManUtd.com and other media ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Barcelona...

Firstly Michael, how are you feeling ahead of the final?
There’s a feeling of excitement and nerves. It’s a huge occasion with so much to gain and we’re looking forward to it. We’ve just got to play to our strengths and try and win the game. You’ve got to respect the strengths that Barcelona have because they’re a terrific team. But we’re there for a reason as well. We believe we’re a very good team and when we play well and do what we’re good at, we believe we’re a match for anyone.

Do you see this game as the ultimate contest in European football?
Definitely. We’ve won our league, they’ve won theirs and we have both been successful for the last few years. We have played each other a couple of times in a semi-final and a final so the consistency of both teams is there. It’s all about who plays best on the night.

How has the squad grown since the final defeat in 2009?
We’ve just gained experience. We’ve had good times as well as the odd blip. You probably learn more from he negative experiences than you do from the good in some ways. We’re a close-knit squad and the team spirit is as good as it’s ever been. We’re all trying to pull together to be successful for each other.

Have you watched the final back again?
We’ve watched bits of it. I’ve watched it again myself. I find when you watch games back they’re never as bad as you think and they’re never

Nani calm about fight for place

Nani is in a relaxed and confident mood ahead of Saturday's final - even though he realises he faces a fight to get a place in the starting XI.
The Portuguese star has enjoyed an outstanding season, winning the club's Players' Player of the Year award recently, but may have to settle for a place on the bench at Wembley, such is the fierce competition for places that that is causing Sir Alex Ferguson many a headache.
Many observers feel Nani is in a straight battle with Antonio Valencia for the right wing slot and the wide man is happy to accept the manager's judgement. "There is no pressure on me," he affirmed. "I know my quality. I know what I have been doing for my team-mates. The manager knows what he is doing. I have played every game. Antonio is just starting now. He has played a couple of games because I needed a rest. Now I am feeling very good and we will let the manager decide.

"It is good when you have competition for places. It makes you stronger and more alert. You have to be at your best if you want to play and that is a good thing."
The former Sporting Lisbon star certainly has the ability to settle tight games and the flair to cause problems for any defence. However, he is keen to stress it will need to be a team effort to overcome Barcelona and he is still improving his own game.
"At the moment, I don't think just about myself," he stated. "It is about the team. Alone, I am not going to get anything.
