Malala receiving a trophy from Yemeni civil rights activist and 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkul
Pakistani child education activist Malala Yousafzai, 17, has made history as the youngest Nobel peace prize winner. She is to share the prize with Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.
The teenager was shot in the head in 2012 for campaigning for girls' education. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to Nobel committee, the pair were awarded the prize "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people".
Mr Satyarthi, 60, headed various forms of peaceful protests using Mahatma Gandhi's approach, "focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain," the committee said.
This year's full record number of 278 nominees was kept secret, but Pope Francis and Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege are alleged to have been included.
