Rwandan troops are ready to stage a precision strike inside Democratic Republic of Congo if there is a new cross-border shelling, the country's UN envoy said Friday.
Rwanda has accused DR Congo troops of firing three shells into its territory during a new surge in fighting with rebels near the border.
"If they are not ready to stop this, we will immediately act and it will hurt," Rwanda's UN ambassador Eugene Richard Gasana told AFP after UN Security Council talks on the heightened tensions.
"We will do it with laser precision, we know where it is coming from," he said.
Rwanda is a current temporary member of the Security Council and Gasana said he had given his government's tough message to the other 14 members. The council has asked for an investigation into the origin of Friday's shelling, diplomats said.
"We are asking them to get along ... and to take their fight far from our border. We already warned the government of Kinshasa," Gasana added.

Rwanda, which has been accused of aiding M23 rebels in DR Congo, has troops on the border, the envoy said, reaffirming allegations that shelling on Friday had come from areas controlled by the DR Congo army.
"If they dare to continue, it will hurt. We don't need to increase anything. We have sufficient strength and we know how to deal with it."

Gasana said the Security Council had been "very sympathetic" to his message.
As peace talks in Kampala between M23 and the DR Congo hit a new deadlock, fresh fighting was reported between the rebels and army forces just north of the key eastern city of Goma.
The Rwandan army said one civilian was injured by one of three shells that crossed the border.

Congo's M23 rebels clashed with government troops on Friday near the eastern city of Goma, a rebel leaders said, in the first heavy fighting in nearly two months.

General Sultani Makenga, M23′s military commander, told Reuters its forces were attacked at 4 a.m. local time (0200 GMT) at Kanyamohoro, around 15 km (10 miles) north of Goma, the largest city in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
"They attacked us," Makenga told Reuters by telephone. "We are going to defend our positions."
An army spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
A Reuters reporter in Goma said the fighting was intense and on-going.
The resumption of hostilities comes days after peace negotiations broke down in the Ugandan capital Kampala, triggering a military build-up on both sides.

The government said the talks stalled when it refused to grant M23′s demand for amnesty for its leaders and reintegration into the army. M23 says it has no desire to rejoin the Congolese forces.
This is the second time in three months that peace talks have stuttered and combat has broken out between the army and the 20-month-old rebel movement.
In late August, government troops with the support of a new U.N. Intervention Brigade forced M23 from its positions just north of Goma.
M23 began as a mutiny by Congolese soldiers in early 2012. The rebels demand that the government fully implement the terms of a 2009 peace deal signed with a previous rebellion which was backed by Rwanda.
United Nations investigators have accused Rwanda of supporting M23, charges that Kigali has strenuously denied. Reuters

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) armed forces on Friday morning used heavy artillery to shell strategic positions held by the M23 rebels, just days after President Joseph Kabila ruled out a peace and amnesty deal with the Movement.
According to M23 political leader, Bertrand Bisiimwa, an allied force of FARDC and Rwandan militia, FDLR; at around 4:00 am, “bombarded Kibati-Kibumba Axis for over two hours.”
The attack saw M23 respond with a ground assault, touching off heavy gunfire at Ruhunda and Buhumba.
Chimpreports could not immediately establish the number of casualties on both sides.
Impeccable sources also told this investigative website that during today’s clashes, DRC forces bombed the Rwandan territory.
“The FARDC/FDLR coalition today morning fired a rocket in Busasamana Sector, Rubavu District. Luckily nobody was injured,” said a source. The explosive landed near the church.
Previous DRC bombings of Rwanda ratcheted up tensions in the region, with Rwanda amassing troops and tanks at the border.
The M23 waged war on the Kinshasha government in 2012, protesting human rights abuses, lack of basic social services in Kivu, discrimination and corruption in the army and failure to return Congolese refugees in foreign countries.
M23 later seized Goma until they were ordered to vacate the Provincial town by the Great Lakes regional leaders in return for peace talks in Kampala.
The negotiations have since grounded to a halt, with President Kabila insisting that the rebels shall not receive amnesty.
Sources said the fighting today displaced over 2,000 DRC refugees into Rwanda.
