SO WHAT ARE YOU SUGGESTING MY DEAR BROTHER?
RAILA TO QUIT AND LEAVE kIBAKI IN POWER FOR THE SEAK OF PEACE, OR RAILA SHOULD JOIN HIS LUO (BROTHERS)FORCES ON THE STREETS IN COMBAT, OR RAILA SHOULD AVOID INDOOR PEACE TALKS FOR FEAR THAT PEOPLE WILL THINK THAT THE MAIN AGENDA OF THE MEETING WAS LUNCH RATHER THAN PEACE.

TELL ME WHAT SHOULD RAILA DO?

DONT MIX RAILA WITH kIBAKA THEY ARE TWO DEFFERENT PEOPLE, ONE IS A THIEF AND THE OTHER IS A VICTIM.

Nope! am not suggesting anything yet; am just observing.
Not all Kikuyu's support what Kibaki did; likewise, not all Luo's are supporters of Raila. On the same token, not all Kikuyu's voted for Kibaki, and not all Luo's voted for Raila.
Democracy is a good thing; and agreed, he who wishes for peace must prepare for war; but then, when we come to the hard facts, surely; Is this senseless killing saving any purpose? The two big men are talking it off in the city, why do we kill each other like that? I can only say that once human blood is spilt the smell thereof sends others reeling in madness.
Human blood speaks vengeance...God knows what will be left after the two hard heads have reached an agreement

Hawa wakenya sikuwahi kufikiri wapo chini kiasi hiki. They are still in a very long way to civility. Yaani sasa huku sisi wote tunaonekana hamnazo, yaani tunapenda makabila yetu kuliko kitu chochote. Stupid Kenyans, who told you killing each other will give you democracy? Can't you identify your common enemy and therefore your common strategy?

Heshima mbele mkuu,

Historia ya Afrika inatueleza that ethnic identity zetu zipo na longer history than the so-called national identity. The Sukuma identity is older and therefore stronger than the Tanzanian identity. This strength is now latent because the Sukuma feel well accomodated in the politics of Tanzania. The vice versa is true in Kenya. If the national politics of Kenya ingehakikisha kuwa wakalenjin, maasai, luhya, somali, luo na hata Mijikenda wanafeel at home kama wasukuma huko Bongo hapangekuwa na shida ya strong and sometimes negative ethnicity/ukabila.

Muhimu ni kufahamu kwamba hakuna nation iitwayo Kenyans.... in reality. Kuna several ethnic identities ambazo zinashea citizenship ya the Republic of Kenya na kwahivyo kijumla zinajiita Kenyans. Hivi basi ni halali yao watu hawa ku define their unity through their diversity ila panapokuwa siasa za pesa nane kama zetu Kenya basi hii diversity inakuwa mischannelled into a potentially disruptive social force kama tuonavyo hivi sasa.

Tanzania pia sio an ideal case. Hebu fikiri. The problem is not in this ethnic rivalries which have existed on the continent for centuries as opposed to the only four-decade-old "national identities". I am proud to be a citizen of Kenya. But I am also proud to speak the "tribal" language of my greatgrandfathers, embrace their tribal worldview, their cultural or tribal practices and ethics. The Gikuyu, Luo or Kalenjin traditional(or tribal) heritage is what makes Kenya to be what it is In other words the Republic of Kenya can cease to exist but these tribes cannot. When the Igbos of Nigeria waliamua kujtenga from Nigeria nawakaunda Biafra, kwa kipindi hicho kifupi they were not Nigerians but Igbos (ethnicity) and BIAFRANS (nationality). Usisahau kwamba Nyerere was one of the few African leaders who supported the freedom of the Biafrans by recognizing their self-declared independence.

Tusidharau heritage zetu kama wa Zaramo, a Pare, a Nyakyusa au hata as a Mtumbatu. La muhimu in Kenya and even Tanzania ni ku embrace a politics that is broad enough to accomodate all the "sons/tribes" of Kenya and deep enough to lay the right foundation for the future emergence of a "Kenyan" nation that will rise from the mchanganyiko of all the Kenyan citizens over many many years. Usisahau kwamba Germany of today is a nation moulded out of the former long-warring tribes of the Goths (both the Osigoths and the Visigoths), the Franks, the Saxons and more recently the Turks. the UK, the mother of Kenya is also the result of a fusion of the long-warring ethnic communities of the Angles, Welsh, Scots, Franks, Danes, Romans, and Saxons.

Ukabila sio mbaya. How did the extended/polygamous African families run their business long before colonialism came? Jibu la swali hili ndio linawezakutupa nuru kwenye giza la siasa zetu za post-independence which shy away from borrowing the good sense of community which our greatgrandfathers wamekuwawakipraktis for centuries.

Mkuu usimlaumu ukabila. Tulaumu na kulaani siasa chafu. Siasa potevu. Siasa za ubaguzi. Siasa za Afrika ambazo dalili zaonyesha zipo kote barani ila in differing degrees. Nyerere accepted that Tanzania at independence was a creation of the British and had its colonial legacy. But Nyerere refused to allow a politics that would further damage the fabric of the country he inherited from the British. He gave Tanzania a pan-ethnic basis by encouraging tribal friendship and respect. What would have been the case if Nyerere was a Chagga/Haya/Nyakyusa or any of the dominant communities of Tanganyika? take this further: Tanzania ingekuwa vipi kama Nyerere angekubaliana na Jomo Kenyatta waendeleze wote wawili siasa duni za Kenyatta za nepotism, petty capitalism and politics of ethnic favoritism? Mimi nadhani nikipiga tarubini kwenye historia ya Tanzania ya kivita yaan ishu ya MajiMaji iliyoanza hata kabla ya Mau Mau, Tanzania ingekuwa vipande vipande....pengine nchi tatu (east, West and North). Ingawaji Nyerere alikubali kabila zipo na ndio misingi ya nchi zetu za Afrika, hakukubali kwamba Kabila moja itachukua 1/3 of the national cake at the expense of the others ambao watarushiwa tu 2/3 kila wanaponung'unikia haki zao.

Tukichukulia mfano wa Tanzania, dar es salaam; kasheshe la hivi likitokea mauaji utayasikia Manzese, Mabibo uchochoroni, you name it; hutayasikia hayo Msasani kwa Mwalim, Mikocheni, Mbezi beach,, and the like. Jibu ni kwamba ni combi8nation ya factors nyingi inadrive watu kubehave the way they do. People are living in absolute poverty; they are daily in the suicidal mood; wakipata sababu kidogo ndio unawakuta wakirusha machete kama hayawani. Politicians should be very careful with their actions and words; cos they are dealing with a lot of frustrated people, all they need is a whistle for them to blow up like live volcano. Am sure the leaders knows this and they are playing on that....My God! whos gonna pay?

THE REALITY IS THE THAT FOR THINGS TO SETTTLE AND BE CALM BLOOD SHED IS INEVITABLE. THERE IS NO SENCE IN HAVING PEACE WHILE THERE IS NO EQUITY (FREEDOM). OUR DEAR BROTHERS IN EUROPE KNOW WHAT AM TALKING ABOUT. THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH HELL TO BRING ABOUT EQUITY, ONCE IN ENGLAND THE ROYALS WERE VERY POWERFUL AND THEY USED THE NAME OF GOD TO RULE THE ENGLISH PEOPLE. LIFE WAS HORRIBLE BACK THEN, EVERYTHING WAS TO THE ADVANTAGE OF THE KING AND SOME FEWS NOBLES, NO ONE QUESTIONED. BUT THEN AGAIN IT TOOK HEROS LIKE OLIVER CROMWELL AND OTHERS TO TURN THINGS ARROUND AND BELIEVE YOU ME IT WAS NOT THROUGH TALKS BUT RATHER BLOOD. KING CHARLES (I) WAS BEHEADED FOR THE GOOD OF ENGLAND. THE FRENCH HAVE DONE IT ALSO AND THIS WAS THROUGH A REVOLUTION WHEREBY KING LOUIS XIV WAS BEHEADED IN 1792. THIS WAS NOT THROUGH PEACE TALKS.

JAMANI WENZETU WALIPITIA MAPIGANO KAMA HAYA. IF IT TAKES BLOOD FOR kIBAKI TO GO AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO RECOGNISE THAT THEIR WAS RIGGING IN KENYA, THEN SO BE IT. LOOK AT CUBA WANAMUOGOPA FIDEL CASTRO NA MPAKA LEO A MOBILE PHONE KWAO NI ANASA.

THIS WAR IS AS A RESULT OF THE 27TH DECEMBER ELECTION'S RIGGING. I AGREE THAT PREVIOUSLY IN MOLO THEIR WERE TRIBAL CLASES BUT IT WAS NOT TO THIS MAGNITUDE. THE FAKE RESULTS TRIGGERED THE VIOLENCE AND kIBAKI WILL PAY AT THE END.

NAIROBI, Kenya (CNN) -- Clashes broke out in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Tuesday, hours after the killing of a lawmaker that was condemned by the leader of the opposition as politically motivated.

Riot police take apart a burning barricade outside murdered Mugabe Were's house in Nairobi.

1 of 3 About 100 supporters also gathered in Kisumu, the third-largest city in Kenya, in a show of anger over the killing of Mugabe Were, prompting police to fire tear gar and bullets to disperse them, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Kisumu, in western Kenya, is a stronghold of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that has accused President Mwai Kibaki of rigging the December 27 vote to win re-election.

Raila Odinga said he suspected "the foul hands of our adversaries" in the shooting death of the ODM member of parliament, according to The Associated Press.

Within hours, rival ethnic gangs clashed in Nairobi's Kibera slum, near where Were was shot dead in his car, according to Reuters.com. Three deaths were reported Tuesday, opposition officials told CNN, but it was unclear if they were linked to the killing. Watch scenes of chaos in Kenya »

A Reuters witness reported seeing two corpses, with cuts on the head and neck.

Police said they used tear gas to disperse "a group of unruly youths" who "took advantage of the mourning" outside the lawmaker's house in suburban Nairobi.

"We are all mourning here," said a local resident who gave only one name, Oneko.

"People are coming in to see what has happened. Then, just now, as we are standing up around here, the police come, armed, and start hitting us and throwing us into the compound and putting tear gas inside a house."

Were was waiting in his car for a gate to his house to open when gunmen opened fire about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday (2130 GMT Monday).

Witnesses saw two men walking from the scene after the shooting, police spokesman Eric Kiraithe told CNN.

The killing appeared not to have been politically motivated, but it was too early to say for sure, he said.

We should not forget that democracy is not cheap, some have to give all, and all have to give some. Kenyans are no fools, i wold not say we who are standing at the vintage point, can see better than them. The blood spilled in Kenya will not go in vain, sooner or later we will see it.
In a country which people are fed up with rigging of elections, wehere politcians are fed up of playing fool it is normal for things like this to happen. I believe as a result of this pillars of democracy in kenya will be strengthened, and politicians will be much more respectful of peoples voices.

It is true but only to an extent. I would understand if these guys were conftronting the state machinery and the killing were done by police as it happened in the beginning. When you start killing each other, no body will support and have mercy on you. The issue has now turned out to be completely tribal; if I am a Kikuyu and you are Luo and we meet face by face it is either you die or me, now how does this confront Kibaki's stolen presidency? This is where I start questioning their level of civilisation. Who said that all Kikuyus voted for Kibaki or all Luos voted for Odinga?

The continued tribal violence is shifting the focus from addressing the issue of Kibaki's abuse of the will of voters to that of solving a tribal conflict. In short, these guys are missing the target; they are weakening their own army and strengthening that of the enemy!

I am inclined to agree with your assessment. It is unlikely that there will be a solution through these talks, especially when Kibaki stays unyielding in his deception that he fairly won the election. I do not see how that huddle will be overcome, short of removing him by force or ODM giving in.

The British Government has denied claims that it does not recognise President Kibaki and his Government.

British Minister for African Affairs, Mr Mark Malloch-Brown, said his Government respects Kenya and has never at any one time said it does not recognise Kibaki and his Government, adding that Britain remains a great friend of Kenya.

Speaking today at State House, Nairobi, after delivering special greetings to Kibaki from British Prime Minister, Mr Gordon Brown, Mr Malloch-Brown said the British Government was impartial in the political impasse in the country.

Malloch-Brown also conveyed the British Government's donation of £1 million (Sh135m) towards the resettlement of those affected by the violence.

President Kibaki welcomed the clarification from the British Government, saying Kenya was surprised by earlier reports that had alleged an unfavourable stand against the Government by Britain.

But when contacted, the British High Commission Head of Press and Public Affairs, Ms Charley William, said: "The issue of recognition was not discussed by either side during Malloch-Brown's visit to State House on Monday. The British Government's stand on the election is very clear".

Williams said Britain recognises states, not governments.

NB: Hivi huu unafiki wa hawa wazungu utaisha lini? Its so disguisting . Ohh nearly forgot that its our own fault.

I also believe that the African governments do not understand any other language than violence, but I don't think that the violence directed at a tribe rather than government will deliver much.

DIPLOMACY MY DEAR FRIENDS CAN NEVER WORK AT ALL. MTU AMEIBA KURA AND THEN UKAE NAYE KWA MEZA MOJA TO DISCUSS ISSUES DIPLOMATICALLY, DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THIS PERSON WILL ACCEPT TO RESIGN AND PAVE WAY FOR A RE-RUN OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS? I DONT THINK SO.

THE BOTTOM LINE HERE MY DEAR FRIENDS IS NOT TO LET kIBAKI AT ANY COST TAKE POWER COMFORTABLY AT ANY COST, THIS INCLUDES BLOOD. MAANA AKICHUKUA KIULAINI THEN AFRICA IS DOOMED.

WHAT ODM NEEDS TO DO IS TO ADVOCATE FOR PEACE BUT ACTUALLY INSTIGATING WAR BEHIND THE SCENES.

As ANC did in South Africa. But they should avoid killing innocent people at any cost. Just as Mandela told ANC in those days, any Umkhonto who kills innocent people is not a true member of ANC, s/he is a puppet of the apartheid regime, Raila and ODM should tell their supporters that any of their members who kills innocent people under the pretext of revenge should be seen as a puppet of Kibaki. All angers should be directed at distabilising Kibaki and his colleagues in the government rather than at innocent akina mama na watoto. This way ODM will win a lot of hearts even those of their enemies.

Whichever way you present it, tribal identities and affiliations are a thing of the past. There is no gain on holding on to these old relics forever to the point of killing a fellow citizen.

You cannot justify what is happening in modern day Kenya on the reason that wazungu too did go through similar experiences a long time ago!

The violence is no longer about democracy now it's just savagery. To be completely honest I was not at all surprised as I anticipated this turn of events. Why? Because when you mix a population with an average IQ of 72 points, long time tribal hatreds, power hungry politicians into the same mix you end up with a potential powder keg ready to explode. And now it is slowly exploding. Unless Europeans or Americans interfere, things will get a lot worse before they get better.
