Democracy is a good thing; and agreed, he who wishes for peace must prepare for war; but then, when we come to the hard facts, surely; Is this senseless killing saving any purpose? The two big men are talking it off in the city, why do we kill each other like that? I can only say that once human blood is spilt the smell thereof sends others reeling in madness.

"People are coming in to see what has happened. Then, just now, as we are standing up around here, the police come, armed, and start hitting us and throwing us into the compound and putting tear gas inside a house."

Were was waiting in his car for a gate to his house to open when gunmen opened fire about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday (2130 GMT Monday).

Witnesses saw two men walking from the scene after the shooting, police spokesman Eric Kiraithe told CNN.

The killing appeared not to have been politically motivated, but it was too early to say for sure, he said.

We should not forget that democracy is not cheap, some have to give all, and all have to give some. Kenyans are no fools, i wold not say we who are standing at the vintage point, can see better than them. The blood spilled in Kenya will not go in vain, sooner or later we will see it.
In a country which people are fed up with rigging of elections, wehere politcians are fed up of playing fool it is normal for things like this to happen. I believe as a result of this pillars of democracy in kenya will be strengthened, and politicians will be much more respectful of peoples voices.

It is true but only to an extent. I would understand if these guys were conftronting the state machinery and the killing were done by police as it happened in the beginning. When you start killing each other, no body will support and have mercy on you. The issue has now turned out to be completely tribal; if I am a Kikuyu and you are Luo and we meet face by face it is either you die or me, now how does this confront Kibaki's stolen presidency? This is where I start questioning their level of civilisation. Who said that all Kikuyus voted for Kibaki or all Luos voted for Odinga?

The continued tribal violence is shifting the focus from addressing the issue of Kibaki's abuse of the will of voters to that of solving a tribal conflict. In short, these guys are missing the target; they are weakening their own army and strengthening that of the enemy!

I am inclined to agree with your assessment. It is unlikely that there will be a solution through these talks, especially when Kibaki stays unyielding in his deception that he fairly won the election. I do not see how that huddle will be overcome, short of removing him by force or ODM giving in.

The British Government has denied claims that it does not recognise President Kibaki and his Government.

British Minister for African Affairs, Mr Mark Malloch-Brown, said his Government respects Kenya and has never at any one time said it does not recognise Kibaki and his Government, adding that Britain remains a great friend of Kenya.

Speaking today at State House, Nairobi, after delivering special greetings to Kibaki from British Prime Minister, Mr Gordon Brown, Mr Malloch-Brown said the British Government was impartial in the political impasse in the country.

Malloch-Brown also conveyed the British Government's donation of £1 million (Sh135m) towards the resettlement of those affected by the violence.

President Kibaki welcomed the clarification from the British Government, saying Kenya was surprised by earlier reports that had alleged an unfavourable stand against the Government by Britain.

But when contacted, the British High Commission Head of Press and Public Affairs, Ms Charley William, said: "The issue of recognition was not discussed by either side during Malloch-Brown's visit to State House on Monday. The British Government's stand on the election is very clear".

Williams said Britain recognises states, not governments.

I also believe that the African governments do not understand any other language than violence, but I don't think that the violence directed at a tribe rather than government will deliver much. Ningefurahi kuona kwamba kunaendelea kuwa na maandamano dhidi ya serikali haramu na kwamba mapigano ya kikabila yanapungua. Viongozi wa ODM wanapaswa kuweka wazi kabisa kwamba mapigano ya kikabila hayana uhusiano na madai yao ya kutaka Kibaki aachia ngazi bali wahusika wa mapigano haya wametumia nafasi hii kutoa yale waliyokuwa nayo moyoni siku nyingi. Hapa ndipo tunapaswa kuonyesha uongozi kwa wananchi.

As ANC did in South Africa. But they should avoid killing innocent people at any cost. Just as Mandela told ANC in those days, any Umkhonto who kills innocent people is not a true member of ANC, s/he is a puppet of the apartheid regime, Raila and ODM should tell their supporters that any of their members who kills innocent people under the pretext of revenge should be seen as a puppet of Kibaki. All angers should be directed at distabilising Kibaki and his colleagues in the government rather than at innocent akina mama na watoto. This way ODM will win a lot of hearts even those of their enemies.

Whichever way you present it, tribal identities and affiliations are a thing of the past. There is no gain on holding on to these old relics forever to the point of killing a fellow citizen.

We should not forget that democracy is not cheap, some have to give all, and all have to give some. Kenyans are no fools, i wold not say we who are standing at the vintage point, can see better than them. The blood spilled in Kenya will not go in vain, sooner or later we will see it.
In a country which people are fed up with rigging of elections, wehere politcians are fed up of playing fool it is normal for things like this to happen. I believe as a result of this pillars of democracy in kenya will be strengthened, and politicians will be much more respectful of peoples voices.

The violence is no longer about democracy now it's just savagery. To be completely honest I was not at all surprised as I anticipated this turn of events. Why? Because when you mix a population with an average IQ of 72 points, long time tribal hatreds, power hungry politicians into the same mix you end up with a potential powder keg ready to explode. And now it is slowly exploding. Unless Europeans or Americans interfere, things will get a lot worse before they get better.
