It is interesting to see how a bunch of supposedly educated officers and the intelligentsia trusted that Nyerere would go along with them.

Did they think so just because they were of Marxist persuasion and Nyerere was a Socialist ? Didn't they know that Nyerere abhorred military takeovers and coups (mostly, save for Biafra)

Alternate history is not my cup of tea, but I bet these Marxist ideologues would have turned into Mengistus and in the process kill any semblance of industry in Kenya.

Which is better, to have inequality with some good portion of the people having some wealth or a country of equally poor people and some Mobutu like godhead in power ?
