A mob scene unfolded in Sokoto City, Nigeria earlier this month as thousands of horrified onlookers gathered outside a veterinary clinic and witnessed a sheep give birth to what many in the crowd believed was a half-human half-sheep, Nigera's Sun Newsreports.
The crowd was in such an uproar–even demanding an investigation and possible execution of the sheep's owner–that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps were called in to quell the commotion.
A witness told Sun News:
"This is an abomination in our land. To see a sheep give birth to a half human being is a mystery and that shows how terrible some people are. It is unimaginable that some people will be having intercourse with animals."
The surgeon who helped the sheep through the difficult birth was bewildered by the public's response, calling it "negative" and "embarrassing," reports Sun News. He said the abnormality was possibly caused by disease, drugs or radiation.
