Tunachokijua(What We Know):
Christiane Amanpour posted on X that a new king was crowned "in Nigeria this week" with pomp and circumstance, and that his résumé was what stood out. The attached clip is titled "The TV anchor who would be king."
Uganda's Tooro Kingdom crowned Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as its new king on September 29, 2026, in Fort Portal. He took the royal name Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. He succeeded the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, and is the 13th monarch of Tooro.
Omukama Oyo Nyimba died on August 27 in the United States, aged 34, while receiving cancer treatment.
Before his coronation, Kijanangoma worked as a news anchor and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation
Claim:
The post says the coronation of a TV-anchor-turned-king took place in Nigeria. The video attached to the post names Uganda, so the text and the video contradict each other.
Findings:
All official media outlets in Uganda like the Daily Monitor, Newvision all place the coronation in Fort Portal, Uganda, not Nigeria as the X post Claims.
Verdict: False
The claim that a new king was coronated in Nigeria is false. King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was crowned on September 29, 2026 in Fort Portal, in Uganda's Tooro Kingdom, not in Nigeria
