Men and grooming have finally become great friends in the last few years.

Ever since the likes of Saif Ali Khan made meterosexuality a fashion statement, men have been rushing to salons, spas and surgeons, trying to look their best, both for themselves and their significant others. It’s cool to take care of one’s appearance, and self-care isn’t just the domain of men from the LGBTQ+ community, and thank god for that!

But grooming isn’t just for when you’re stepping out of home - there are certain grooming essentials you need to keep in mind for those special occasions when you’re bringing someone home with you.

What are those grooming essentials? Well… here’s a list of what to do and more importantly, what not to do.

1. Keep it clean down there
This one’s a no-brainer!
The area down there needs to be kept clean and hygienic at all times. Not only before you invite someone to your bedroom but also in general, every single day, make sure to wash and scrub the area properly. As for the trimming (or not) of pubic hair is concerned, that’s actually a judgement call - how much is too much is up to you but make sure you aren’t George of the Jungle, for sure.
2. Watch your mouth

Nobody likes to see teeth that are stained with coffee, cigarettes, etc.. Nor is anyone interested in seeing plaque sticking out like a sore thumb. So make sure to brush twice a day and also get a clean-up once in a while.
Additionally, keep a mouth freshener handy at all times. Anything and every day can lead to bad breath right before that crucial kiss!

3. Hair, there, everywhere
Body hair is normal and natural. But just like we all regularly address the hair on top of our heads, it’s also important to deal with random hair growth everywhere else. Imagine going to bed with someone who has random strands of hair peeking out of their nose and ears. If it’s not a pretty sight for you, ensure your date doesn’t have to deal with it either.

Even your facial hair needs to be groomed. A well-maintained stubble and beard are fine only when the hair is smooth and clean, remember?

4. It’s all in the details

You can say a lot about a man just by looking at his hands. Dry and dirty palms, fingers and fingernails never make a good first impression. If you can’t be bothered to keep your hands in check, go for manicures every 2 weeks, and while you’re there, also get a pedicure.

5. Smell good

Nothing turns someone on more than a good smell, so always insist on one that suits your personality, and isn’t too overpowering. There are options aplenty for both day and night, and it isn’t advisable to use one for both.

Now, moving on to what you must not do, the list isn’t too long:

1. To shave or not to shave?
Hair on a man’s chest has long been a topic of conversation. Should he keep it au naturale or shave it all off? Or is the best way to keep it trimmed to perfection? Honestly, to each their own. As long as it is looking well-groomed, you should be good. Unless, of course, you hear complaints, in which case it's best to do as your partner desires.

2. No shocks, please!
When you’re inviting someone to the bedroom, the last thing you want is to shock them, in a not-so-good way. A hairstyle experiment gone wrong, body hair that was there till yesterday but has been shaved off now, a beard that exists no more - such things are better best avoided.

You want to maintain consistency in how you’ve been looking, till the two of you have reached a space in your equation where such things won’t be much of a surprise.

3. Prepare for the worst

Is there a tattoo you aren’t too proud of? A piercing they’ll find when they’re least expecting it? A key part of grooming for the bedroom is to ensure your partner knows what’s coming their way, especially if those things could become a point of contention later.
