Belgian sensational striker Divock Origi prefers listening to Alikiba’s music more than any other East African artiste. Origi says that given a choice between Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Alikiba, the Cinderella, Mwana and Chekecha hit maker would definitely be his choice among other Kenyan artistes.
“You know it is my mom who normally has a lot of CDs with Kenyan music but yes, napenda ngoma za Alikiba sana kuliko Diamond ama hao wengine (I like Alikiba’s music more than Diamond’s, or even those others),” said Origi, speaking exclusively at his house in Formby, a small town in Merseyside, United Kingdom when Pulse paid him a visit.
The Liverpool Football Club (LFC) striker further said that even though he has not spent much of his time in Kenya, he remains upbeat about what goes on “back at home”.
“I am proud to represent Kenya. I know that there are many Kenyans out there who have done great things like Wangari Maathai, Barack Obama and Lupita Nyongó, if I can also be among the people who put Kenya on the limelight then that would definitely be a great feeling.
“I would love to one day meet Lupita and I think it would be an interesting development and great as well.”
During his free time, Origi loves watching movies with a bias for action movies.
“My all-time favourite actor is Denzel Washington but I also like watching TV series a lot and lately I have watched lots of American series like Narcos, Homeland and Power,
Even though LFC provides food at the club for all players, that has not stopped Origi from enjoying Kenyan delicacies and whenever his mother or sister visits, the meals must be Kenyan.
He said: “Mimi napenda nyama choma sana lakini pia vitu kama pilau, chapati (I like nyama choma a lot, as well as delicacies like pilau and chapatti) are some of the things I miss about home.
As a young man with an overall estimated $14,820,000 (approximately Sh1.5bn) net worth, Origi has had to deal with not only the pressure from English press but the ladies as well.
Thanks to his strict Christian upbringing, Origi keeps away from all the trouble by spending his time alone at home or only with close friends and relatives.
“But that does not mean that I do not speak to people, I do talk to the fans and I have a number of friends. But at the moment, I am a single young man and at 20, am just getting started, you know,” explained Origi. “I am a very religious person and I believe in Jesus Christ and my help comes from God so if you follow the ways of God then everything else just falls in place. Again, that (dating) is not in my priority for now because I believe that when the time comes God will guide me into meeting someone,” he explained.
Origi also told Pulse about his love for fashion and style and that he wears almost everything that has a sense of class.
“I can go from classy to street star to trainers to everything else that makes me happy. You know, I love fashion and I also love changing my hairstyle."
"I also wear Kenyan and as long as it is nice I wear it but of course Nike is my personal sponsor so, that means that all my personal sports gear is Nike, plus the boots,” concluded Origi.
