On completion port capacity will double to 28 million tonnes by 2020. Dongier said the total cost is envisaged to be $596 million, including an IBRD Enclave loan of up to $400 million, the first of its kind in the Africa region, a prospective grant of $136 million from DFID (£85 million equivalent), and committed and pipeline support from TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) in the sum of $60 million (£38 million equivalent), excluding the complementary private investment in the port. Modernizing and expanding Dar es Salaam Port will reduce ship’s dwell time from the current nine to10 days down to just five days by 2020.

The three new ship to shore gantry cranes acquired by the Kenya Ports Authority are intended to improve productivity at the port of Mombasa.

KPA General Manager Engineering Service Javan Wanga said the acquisition of the equipment is in line with the government’s vision 2030.
He added the additional equipment will play a big role in positioning the port of Mombasa as a major harbour in the region.

“The specification of the acquired equipment was done by the authority’s local engineers,” he pointed out.

Wanga said he expects the equipment to handle more than 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) annually when they become operational.

He was speaking to journalists during the reception of the equipment along berth number 22 at the second container terminal at the port of Mombasa in Mombasa county.

The KPA officer argued at the moment the authority handles 1.2 million TEUs annually.

He told journalists the additional equipment will make the authority handle an additional 50 per cent of cargo and containers at the port of Mombasa.
“The authority has other complementary equipment apart from the three newly acquired ones,” he added.
The KPA officer disclosed the equipment which were shipped from Japan can handle vessels which have 18 containers abreast.
Wanga told journalists the offloading of the three equipment from MV Big Lift Baffin will take two months before they are commissioned.

“The arrival of the three ship to shore gantry cranes brings the number of the equipment to seven,” he said.

The KPA officer disclosed the new equipment were meant for the second container terminal.
Wanga said the authority spent Sh 3.3 billion to buy the equipment with each costing Sh 1.1 billion adding that plans are at an advanced stage to acquire more such equipment for berth number 23.

This port is crucial to the international market and also doubles as an important landmark in African history. The Port of Dar es Salaam is the principal port serving Tanzania and handles over 90% of the country's cargo traffic.

Despite of the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, port Dar es salam managed to handle 17.5 million tonnes of cargoes in 2020, compared to 17.1 million tonnes recorded in 2019.

Dar welcomes DR Congo to take advantage of a good network of roads, rail and port facilities in Tanzania



The Democratic Republic of Congo has officially become a member of the East African Community, raising the number of partner states to seven. The admission followed the endorsement of the report of the EAC Council of Ministers on Friday and the heads of state, during a virtual meeting chaired by community chairperson Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. BANDARI YA DAR ES SALAAM INA JUMLA YA GATI 12, NA ZOTE KUENDESHWA KWA AINA YA UBINAFISHWAJI
Magati kuanzia gati 0 hadi 11 ya bandari sasa kuwekwa katika hali ya aina ya ubinafsishwaji taarifa inasema : magati namba 4-7 pia magati 0 -3 na upande wa kuanzia gati 8 hadi 11 mwekezaji tofauti na DP World anaswakwa.

Mikataba inayosainiwa leo ni baina ya Nchi mwenyeji, mkataba wa ukodishaji na uendeshaji wa gati namba 4-7 lakini pia kutakuwa na sehemu ambayo gati 0-3 zitaendeshwa kwa ushirikiano wa pamoja kati ya TPA na kampuni ya DP World kwa shughuli za kibiashara na shughuli za kiserikali.

Mikataba hii haihusishi eneo lote la bandari wala bandari zingine za Tanzania. Upande wa gati namba 8-11, mchakato wa kumpata mwendeshaji mwingine umeshaanza kufanyika na akipatikana mwekezaji mwingine mwenye sifa atakabidhiwa na sio DP World.

Miundombinu ya Bandari ya Dar es Salaam, Tanzania​

Nyenzo zilizopo ambazo husaidia uendeshaji wa shughuli za Bandari ya Dar es salaam ni kama ifuatavyo: -
  • Kuna magati ya shehena mchanganyiko (0-5) kwa ajili ya shehena kavu na magari.
  • Magati ya makasha (5-11) .
  • Vihenge vya kuhifadhia nafaka (silos) vyenye uwezo wa tani 30,000, vituo vya makasha vya nchi kavu (ICD) vyenye uwezo wa kuhifadhi 24,300 TEUs na CFs yenye uwezo wa kutunza magari 6,000 kwa wakati.
  • Pia kuna Single Point Mooring (SPM) yenye uwezo wa kuhudumia meli zinazobeba hadi tani 150,000 za mafuta ghafi na mafuta yaliyosafishwa.
  • Bomba la Mafuta Kurasini (KOJ) kwa ajili ya bidhaa ambazo zimesafishwa inapokea meli zenye ukubwa wa tani 45,000 (MT) kwa KOJ1 na tani 5,000 kwa KOJ2.

Uboreshaji wa Bandari ya Dar es salaam​

Mamlaka ya Usimamizi wa Bandari Tanzania (TPA) inatekeleza miradi mbalimbali mikuu kama ilivyoelezwa kwenye utafiti wa mpango mkuu wa Bandari wa Taifa (PMP) uliofanywa na Royal Haskoning, Februari, 2009 na kufanyiwa Maboresho mwaka 2020.



Utafiti huo umeweka mkakati wa muda urefu wa bandari za Tanzania kuwa na uwezo wa kukidhi matarajio ya mahitaji. Miongoni mwa miradi hiyo ni Mradi wa Lango la Bahari la Bandari ya Dar es Salaam (DMGP) DMGP utaboresha matumizi na ufanisi kwa kuibadilisha bandari kuwa ya kiwango cha kimataifa yenye ufanisi mkubwa.



Baadhi ya miradi itakayofanya bandari kuwa ya kisasa ni pamoja na kuimarisha na kuongeza kina cha magati ya 1 – 7 na gati la RoRo, uzoaji taka na tope kwenye njia ya kuingilia meli, mzunguko wa kugeuza meli, kuimarisha na kuongeza kina cha magati namba 8 – 11 na kujenga gati jipya la kuhudumia mafuta.

Kituo cha CEEC Congo DR chafungua ofisi Dar es Salaam

Tanzania, Machi 26, 2024 -- Dar es Salaam. Bidhaa za madini kutoka Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo (DRC) sasa zitaidhinishwa katika kituo maalum nchini Tanzania huku nchi hizo mbili zikijaribu kuongeza wingi wa bidhaa zinazopitia Bandari ya Dar es Salaam na kukabiliana na magendo.

Kituo hicho kinachojulikana kama ofisi ya kituo cha biashara kinachosimamia bidhaa za madini chini ya Kituo cha Tathmini na Udhibitishaji wa Utaalamu (CEEC), kituo hicho kitaidhinisha madini yote kutoka DRC yanayopitia bandari hiyo.

Kwa kufanya hivyo, inalenga kuongeza imani ya wawekezaji, hatimaye kunufaisha nchi zote mbili.

Kwa mujibu wa Mamlaka ya Usimamizi wa Bandari Tanzania (TPA), Bandari ya Dar es Salaam hivi sasa inahudumia asilimia 68 ya mizigo ya DRC inayosafirishwa kupitia njia mbalimbali za bahari.

New port facility to verify minerals from DR Congo​

Tanzania, March 26, 2024 -- Dar es Salaam. Mineral products from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will now be approved in a special facility in Tanzania as the two countries try to increase the quantity of products passing through the Port of Dar es Salaam and combat smuggling.

The center known as the office of the trade center that manages mineral products under the Center for Evaluation and Certification of Expertise (CEEC), the center will approve all minerals from the DRC passing through the port.

By doing so, it aims to increase investor confidence, ultimately benefiting both countries.

According to the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA), the Port of Dar es Salaam currently serves 68 percent of DRC's cargo transported through various sea routes.
