First-timers in Thailand are often drawn to the bustling and interesting night markets. The cooler air, bright lights, hint of a bargain, one-off crafts and the amount of budget-friendly mouth-watering food available can keep a traveller hanging around for hours!
Those who haven't done a little bit of research about the night markets are often seen mouth-wide-open, making vomit-like gestures, or just turning and running as they come across the cooked insect sellers!
For generations, the locals in Thailand have been regularly snacking on crickets, maggots, spiders, scorpions and more bizarre kinds of food. Since proven to be an incredible source of protein, these "delicacies" are readily available in a big bag for a low cost, and believe it or not, don't taste too bad - although i'm personally not a fan of the scorpion body!
Thai's will snack on these little critters throughout the day just as visitors might snack on a high-fat bag of friend potato chips!
Give them a go. You might be pleasantly surprised, and if not, give them to a young Thai child who will most likely happily devour them in seconds!
