'EVERY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB'S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AFTER TRANSFER CRASH WIPES OFF BILLIONS

Player transfer values have plummeted by over €9 billion worldwide due to the severe financial uncertainty created by football's current stoppage.

That's according to the experts at Transfermarkt, who've taken into account the long-term implications of the ongoing pandemic on clubs' resources - and uncertainty as to when the transfer window will reopen.

It's had a huge impact on Premier League player values. The biggest faller - but still the league's most expensive player - is Man City's Raheem Sterling, valued at £144 million in December but only £115 million now.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane and Mo Salah are rated at £108 million - as is Harry Kane - but all three have fallen from their £135 million valuation at the end of 2019.

Paul Pogba drops to £72 million from £90 million - but maybe that's just because he can't get a weekly fresh trim right now.

However it's players towards the end of their prime years which now look like bargains. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goals are worth way more than his estimated fee of £50 million to Arsenal - but he turns 31 in the summer and his contract expires in 2021.

Similarly, Wolves fans may laugh at Raul Jimenez's price being set at 'just' £36 million. But the striker will be 29 next month and how many peak seasons will he have left when football does return?

Some of the values still look low to us. No way are Crystal Palace selling Wilf Zaha for £40 million - not after tagging him at double that for years - while Jack Grealish is surely worth more than £27 million, even if he is in the shabbiest of dog houses right now.

Each Premier League club's most valuable player - according to Transfermarkt - is listed below, along with their price at the end of 2019 before the transfer crash.

ARSENAL 'TRACKING NAPOLI'S FUTURE FREE AGENT DRIES MERTENS'

Arsenal are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli, according to a report in Italy.

The Belgian star is all set to leave Napoli at the end of the current season, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.

Considering he has scored 121 goals in 309 appearances since moving to Italy in 2013, the diminutive frontman will be a much-coveted commodity in the summer.

Arsenal, according to Il Mattino, are keeping tabs on the situation, along with Atletico Madrid.

ARTETA SEES MADRID STRIKER JOVIC AS AUBAMEYANG'S REPLACEMENT AT ARSENAL (AS)

Arsenal have reportedly identified out of favour Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners are braced to lose their club captain at the end of the season and talks over a bumper new contract appear to have stalled.

And Arsenal are said to be keen to avoid losing their top scorer for nothing, and may be tempted to cash in - with the Emirates outfit eyeing up a potential swoop for Jovic as an alternative.

Jovic has notably struggled to make an impact during his first campaign in Madrid, having scored just two goals in 24 appearances, but Mikel Arteta is thought to view the frontman as a solution to Aubameyang's departure.

AS have rekindled speculation that Jovic may be set for a Premier League move, but believe that the Bernabeu giants may be unwilling to allow the ace to leave this summer.

The club may hand Jovic one more term to prove himself, and believe that the striker could be able to finally live up to his potential due to the 22-year-old's scintillating form with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Real's hierarchy are even said to have admitted that Jovic has been handed little opportunity to justify his hefty price tag, and hope that the Serbian will improve with age.

The same report states that Aubameyang is reluctant to renew his deal in north London due to interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

The former Borussia Dortmund talisman is aware that he is approaching the latter years of his career and is running out of time to clinch more silverware - with Arsenal having failed to participate in the Champions League since 2017.

Aubameyang has also struggled to achieve personal glory, with his last trophy arriving almost two seasons ago - and could be tempted to join either of the two European giants.
