African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Tested both Strong Srt 4922 Hd & Strong 4950H over the weekend to see which of the two was more user friendly and easier to use.

Loaded on both, latest firmware patches

Srt 4922 HD is smaller in size than Srt 4950H>>>

Tests on Intelsat 20 C-Band setup plus Blind scan>>>>>>

First i deleted all the existing frequencies of Intelsat 20 C-band on both receivers before i tested blindscan to see which receiver was faster and and able to lock on more frequencies.

On Srt 4922 HD the setup is straight forward and easier>>>

To select the satellite of your choice on Srt 4922, you can either navigate upwards or downwards or sideways <<>>

Srt 4922 Hd has a dedicated Blind scan option which comes STEP option when it comes to hunting for sat feeds.

For blindscan on Srt 4922HD, i selected STEP 1.
With STEP 1, the frequency is scanned per one digit so as to enable the receiver to lock on very low SR (synbolic Rates) used mainly for sat feeds.

A good example of STEP 1 blindscan>>

I Scanned Eutelsat 7 East A yesterday for sports feed using STEP 1 and got the 2 live Dstv Kenyan matches feeds on Frequency 11063 H DVB-S2 8PSK SR 6111>>>

10663639663_8d49e8e219_z.jpg

Srt 4922 HD blind scan STEP 1 took 9 minutes & 27 seconds with a total of 256 TV
(fta/scramble) channels from 56 frequencies.

On Srt 4950H, The setup is slightly complex>>

Go to Antenna Settings

When selecting a satellite, you can only navigate upwards or downwards.

10663154846_eda54dc4b7_z.jpg

Once you get your preferred satellite i.e Intelsat 20, navigate side ways to the SELECT TAB displaced in green in the image and enter select.

I selected 5150 for C-Band lnb frequency as i had done for srt 4922.

10663157776_b9b8f36da4_z.jpg

To Blind-scan, you scroll down to START SEARCH tab and chose Blind-scan.

Srt 4950 HD got a total of 129 Tv Channels (fta/scrambled) from 25 Transpoders

10663128355_ec0f11429e_z.jpg

From further investigating i noted the it could only run blind-scan on Horizontal frequeies.
Changed the Lnb frequency I.e 5150 >> 5759 >. 5150/5750 >>> & 5700 but noticed the same issue.

Changed the LNb power to 13V and was able to get the Vertical frequencies minus horizontal.

Tried to downgrade Srt 4950H with the original firmware patch from Strong Technologies website, but the receiver didn't upload the firmware as the firmware was to old as per receiver feedback.

Will wait for the new patch so as to clear this bug.

On srt 4922 HD navigated is either upwards/downwards or Sideways will on Srt 4950H channel navigation is either upwards or downwards.

Srt 4950H sideways navigation gives the option of ALL CHANNELS (which you can only scroll up or down) >>> FTA>>>SCRAMBLE>>>HD .

Hello forum. It seems there are quite a number of us here in Kenya who are interested in the 8ft dishes from Tz. Lagat, Solomon, have you got yours yet? How about we all arrange to ship them together. It might be cheaper. Pm me if you are still interested. I have already initiated communication with Subbi.

Seconded. I have an SRT 4950H with a 180cm pf and pointed at 7e and I am getting the goodies. But Nickelodeon (sp) has disappeared of late and I fear that soon there will be demonstration in that house!

Nickelodeon is there. Nice and strong.

Gich I've realized that some stations may indicate scrambled when the stb is booted at first. I normally reboot to clear the problem; it has always worked for me.

Good idea Kiruri. For sure if you will manage to organize yourself the costs will be cheaper. I have received 7 expression of interest on 8ft offset dish from Ke, 1 from Ug and 1 from Zambia. So far 2 dishes have been successfully delivered in Ke.

hello satmate

There are so many who wish to answer your question. but let me be the first to help.

As it is nobody will be able to answer your question.
so you have to answer
1. where is that dish facing?
2. which satellite is it currently pointed to?
3. what other satellites he is interested in?
RJ, here are the answers:
1. East
2. currently enjoying goodies on 7e
3. Interested in Arabsat 5c and/or Paksat

Did i get that right? Ebola? huh?

Yes you got it right.

Luxembourg - Accra, 10 November 2014 - SES (NYSE Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) has launched on its fleet an Ebola-focused education channel to be broadcast via satellite in West Africa.

The channel, called "Fight Ebola", will be available to both free-to-air TV viewers and Pay TV subscribers and transmitted from the ASTRA 2F satellite at 28.2 degrees East and from SES-5 at 5 degrees East.
It aims at informing populations in affected areas about the nature and dangers of the disease and how to fight it.

Part of West Africa is dealing with the worst Ebola outbreak in history.

The channel's message emphasizes the fact that Ebola is spreading, that there is a great need to protect oneself as well as families and the entire community.
The objective of "Fight Ebola" is to create an understanding of the disease through the broadcast of educational and factual content.

"Through the channel we hope to further educate people. Many people do not understand this disease and therefore, tragically, do not seek the medical care they need.
Fight Ebola broadcasts content to millions of people that need to be informed on the risks of Ebola. The content on the channel comes from multiple sources endorsed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Health", said Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, Senior Vice President Commercial Africa at SES.

The content contributions are courtesy of numerous international media, help organization and institutions such as UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and End Ebola Now.

The programme also includes endorsements and appeals from British Premier League football players with West African origins such as Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel from Chelsea FC, Samuel Eto'o and Christian Atsu from Everton FC, Peter Odemwingie from Stoke City FC and Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham Hotspur.

"Fight Ebola" is broadcast on ASTRA 2F, Transponder No 2,520, Receive Frequency: 11595 MHz, Polarization: Linear-vertical, Modulation: DVB-S2 QPSK, FEC: 5/6, Symbolrate: 30Msps and on SES-5 at 5 degrees East, Transponder No 4,971, Polarization: Linear-horizontal, Received Frequency:12302 Mhz, Modulation: DVB-S2 QPSK, FEC : 3/4, Symbolrate: 30 Msps.

"Fight Ebola" is also available on SES - Global Satellite Services Provider - Your Satellite Company - SES.com, https://www.youtube.com/FightEbolaTV and https://www.facebook.com/FightEbolaTV. - See more at: SES JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST EBOLA - SES.com
