By the way is the decoder a true fta decoder i.e. can it nab other fta satellites?

Am using Elsat OVHD satellite decoder.

The front part has a smart-card slot but no smartcard in the slot.
As per info, the smart-card slot is for future paytv access.

The receiver has conditional access (encryption) system supplied by NDS which is on-board the receiver motherboard which is activated once forever.

The rear,

-1 USB port but currently no pvr support on the receiver.
-1 HDMI 1.3 port for High Definition viewing.
HD viewing is only available on programmes broadcasted in HD on FULL HD or HD Ready TV sets.
-RCA Audio/Video port for SD viewing
-RF IN/OUT ports SD viewing from decoder to the TV via coaxial cable.

The receiver has only one satellite (SES 5) selection input>>>

The receiver can only lock on OpenView channels on frequency 11966 H DVB-S2 Sr 27500 & 12073 H DVB-S2 Sr 27500 The sat box cant lock on the FTA frequencies/channels as by default the receiver is locked on frequency OpenView HD 12073 H.

Smooth transition on the Menu tab.


More radio stations are to be launched on OpenView bouquet.

4950 is the best decorder for combining 7w & 8w coz i did it with an ease at VOI

Thanks my brother.We just have to help one another when it comes to transborder FTA help.I will help whosever wants to acquire OVD .Getting the decoders from SA is not easy as border control coupled with Intellectual Rights issues contributes to the delay.

Those 12V adaptors are very bad when it comes to voltage regulation. If you put a volt-metre on them you will be shocked at the output voltage(open). up to 22V. so any voltage spike on our mains is enough to fry the electronics. i have seen so many dstv stb's that went that way.
once you get such equipment, hunt for some old/obsolete equipment (European or Japanese. certainly not chinese!) that has the same sort of power rating and use that. especially one with a transformer in it. they are heavier/bulkier, but worth their weight in gold when it comes to reliability. on my analogue tv antenna,which still works with the digital yo-yo, i ditched the power supply that came with it and use an old nokia phone charger. the 5V works perfectly:majani7:. Try such tricks before investing in line regulators/stabilizers etc. But then i am cheap like that. :biggrin1:

was it the decoder or the power supply that got fried? If it was the PS then 2.5k is alot, you can buy a new adapter and have plenty left.

I also got this decoder. A friend bought it for me in South Africa at about 9k. Once you install it you text the serial number to anybody in South Africa to activate it for you. You can use twin lnb on Zuku dish to receive the channels. My signal quality is 55% while the Zuku is 93%.

Hi there are 2 types of Samsung lnb's. One is clearly written Samson I guess from the manufacturer and another fake one with a samson sticker. All of them are good by the way only the workmanship of the fake one is evident.

I guess the main weakness with the OVHD decoder is that it wont allow you to connect to other (or more than one) satellites, although it has a DiSEqC 1.0 function. Any clever way to go around this? Could be just a software issue to limit its usage / market to SES5 only; ..... and only to specific Transponders!

yesterday i got the hotpoint dvbt decoder and it is a gadget that is not worth that price . My advice don't even dare to have it. Its slow, Poor picture quality and its not able to search all fta channels available. I rate it at 3/10.

i agree,saw it o
n tuskys supermarket the finishing and the remote made me hate it at first glance.searching channels and saving was quite disappointing.
next decoder is far better than hotpoint.it even played my external hdd with ease.most of the t2 decoders in the market have similar substandard remotes that wear out easily or chip off like eraser.why dont they invest on good quality remotes like startimes or dstv?
H-box is another one you should avoid at all cost.
