To
all Kenyan members, the supreme court ruling on the Digital migration
row will be today Fri 4th April @ 2.30pm. Members who are near a TV please keep us posted.
Thanks.

Yes thats true Techdee. I will try to catchup with the ruling. Whichever way it goes FTA wins! 4 sure. Meanwhile st*times subscribers are not amused at all at all. W/o Local Channels FTA, St*times makes no sense.

Will the Supreme Court reverse the ruling on digital migration this afternoon at 2:30pm?

with my 90cm dish im finding the going tuff on nilesat with this nairobi weather....somebody adviced me to get a big dish...my question is will it solve my problem expecially when there is heavy rain here in nairobi

Roughly one & half hours to go, nobody knows 4 sure. Lets all adopt a wait and see situation.

But Abu I-man as you know Hon. Paul Muite is a lawyer of no mean feat. Behind the defence desk, he's gonna be backing the three Big fishes in the media industry. Besides accusing St*times of infringement, we expect his team to further challenge the legality of CCK under new Law, etc.

If you ask me, the Judges are likely to SUSTAIN the earlier ruling on Digital Migration Row (its like their hands are tied). However, remember its the Goverment that took The Digital Migration Dispute to the Supreme court. Dont you forget it... I said the Government & so I am making no bets here...

DIGITAL MIGRATION DISPUTE

It's sad that Kenyans are still waiting for the digital dream. I found the following veiws expressed by a TANZANIAN QUITE PALATABLE THOUGH. I.e in respect to the earlier ruling.

Courtesy of Abdulkadir Mbeo ¡¤ University of Dar es Salaam

"I sincerely believe that this judgment will discourage foreigners to invest in Kenya. I think the judgment could have been fair if it could allow the appellant to be granted a signal distribution license as well instead of scraping the licenses already awarded to others especially foreign investors. These foreign investors shouldn't be kept responsible for mistakes done by Kenya government officials without their knowledge. They acquired the license through the procedures directed by Kenya Government. They are not to be treated as thieves. They respected/complied to the law/procedures on the government table. We should as well know that these foreign investors also have already invested tons of shillings in this part of the business for hope of not only profit but also serving the Kenyans and transform this part of Africa to modern world of digital broadcasting thus making the Kenyans enjoy the benefits acquired from digital broadcasting in the earliest time. With this court of appeal verdict, definitely the main losers will be the Kenyans and the Government of Kenya who has been ordered to pay back the whole moneys the investors has spent in this investment of which I bet it is extremely colossal. I wish the Government wins the appeal to Supreme Court. Let the government appeal definitely it will win."

well said I neednt say more. Its 40 minutes to go.

Boss, you make it really funny when you write "swing" . My experience:8w is very close to 7W. When moving from 7W to 8w, LOWER dish by not more than 5mm (that 5mm is an estimate just to show how close the birds are)
I'm not big on movies so I'd rather stay at 7W unless the likes of CNN and BBC move to 8w. The 8w TPs are very strong especially the Al Jazeera one.

i know they are that close, but was just wondering if i should make that trip onto the roof. It will only be because my kids are great fans of the MBC3 and won't give me peace:A S-cry:. but like you, I'd hate to lose the news channels..

think it is time to get a smaller dish for 36E. i have a 4port diseqc switch in the ceiling anyway. 2 ports are empty, the other one is ona C-band dish currently debating when to switch off of 64.2, and to where? 5W,1W,20E or 38E?

Even the one on 36E will be FTA , :dance😱f course. before you guys feel i am selling FTA out:brushteeth:. Ebru has some interesting things for kids.

You can actually avoid a trip to the roof by just rescanning. I did that and got the MBCs on 8w without the banner.
The only downside is the signal quality is reduced-mine is 64% on 4922.

i have tried. i even manually entered the frequency etc. i know the dish/lnb is not set up optimally. i have just been lazy to go get it tweaked right. now i will. thanks anyway.

The ruling has just ended where the status quo remains. It seems NTV, KTN and Citizen will remain off air in pay platforms until the case is determined. The next hearing has been set for 27th April.

postponing a tough decision does not make it any lighter and to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs.

DIGTAL MIGRATION ROW RULING

In short this was today's ruling...

"The Supreme Court has directed the government not to switch off analogue television broadcast until an appeal filed before it is determined.
In the ruling Friday, the Supreme Court judges Jackton Ojwang and Smokin Wanjala upheld a Court of Appeal decision that set September 30, 2014 as the digital broadcast migration date.
The court also stopped pay television stations from rebroadcasting local channels without permission.
The pay TV stations stopped from airing NTV, Citizen and KTN content without consent are Startimes, Pan-African network, Gotv and Signet."

KENYAMUX FTA ROW

Following today's ruling I can tell you Kenyamux on Free To Air did not win, unless the big Fishes come up with something. For example ganging up and beaming their signals from one satellite, etc...

What do you guys think?

You can receive 201, 7w & 8w on one dish with a single lnb adjusting the dish a little . Am receiving them on my 120cm, 11977 at 50% quality and 11740 at 65% quality on humax ir2020

Hope they do. But on the brighter side, if the big three transmit digital terrestrial on their own equipment we are likely to see much better quality, even HD. Everyone will agree that what we are getting now from the likes of s**net etc is way below what DVBT2 is capable of.

i have a gtv dish and lnb, what is the performance of the lnb,i want to nab 5e and 17e and combine it with nilesat

To Acheive that, you may need a bigger dish like 120 or 130cm offset. i have all the above plus Amos 5 & 8w on 130cm dish.
