View attachment 768410 Guys check out this humongous offset dish. I believe it was for internet use since it has been unused for 8 yrs now. I got one of the guys who manages this building allow me to take it and use it if I can dismount it. Being a newbie here, can this be of any help for the ASAS hunger slowly catching up with me? What LNB will I use? Or it is fodder for the scrap yard? Help!!

Oh my God, can we switch places? I have been salivating for such from a certain Posta but I was told that it's not known who I can contact to get it since they no longer use them!!

Just imagine....

Go and do not look back. It's heaven sent!

I will definitely go for it. Now the remaining bit is to look for spanners and spanner boys to help dismount it. That will be this weekend hopefully. Then to fabricate it and remove the transponder will be the next thing.

All the best, you will update the house on what you will be able to nab when you succeed in doing all that.

one 90cm dish called " discovery challenger" which lnb are you using?
I use Inverto black for offset, i am in Kiambu few km from Nairobi. I have a similar Discovery dish and also the old heavy gauge BB Elsat dish. Sometimes you have to adjust the focal length to improve reception.

Hehehe! That my friend is the bitter- sweet taste of it. Kind of you love me seek me.

I share your very concern coz I have 180cm with gulf star cband lnb and my experience is just the same.
However! I did my homework but its kinder of like still in the proposal stage. The reason for that is I made up my mind to invest first in an lnb before I go for the Big ugly dish of 8 feet, well! At least for our East African standard though(who made it a standard anyway?) So I thought if I could get top of the line c band lnb ( in terms of a hunter for the weak signal ) I would test it with my 180 cm first before I dig in to 240 cm.
Another reason is I believe in squeezing on what I have to its last drop.

So I made a literature review and this is what I found people calling the best!
TITANIUM C1-PLL.
As the title suggests, its made by the Titanium Satellites.
Go here for their website.Titanium Satellite - C1-PLL C-band LNBF WiMAX 4G LTE Wide Area WiFi Interference Filter

And here for the review
OFFICIAL TITANIUM C1-PLL REVIEW

Like I said its still in literature review, for the reason that I ordered it and its on its way from USA and presumably by Friday next week it might be here.

This Lnb you can only buy it from AMAZON or EBay, its not available in Alibaba or Aliexpress. Infact buying from themselves its prefereble as you are sure of the quality.
Pricewise its 38 usd if you buy from theirweb where you get the lnb itself with a prime focus scalar ring. If your dish is an offset, you have to add 18 USD on top of it for an offset scallr ring .
For shipping they charge 23.25 to TZ ( Based on my location. For your location it might be different) making it 62.5 Usd
But I ordered it from their EBay account for the total of 60.57 USD including shipping.

Once I get it, I'll report back for the fact that it might be a different story, by the way someone has to take the risk first. However, based on my google research I have this belief that this is it. Let's pray that the slogan that says you get what you paid for works.
At least for me this is what I have to say, sorry that its a bit messy.

I submitt.
Its good to test new grounds, try and report improvement, but for the same i would have given you two Pauxis px2000 lnbs and shipping. I use the Px2000 and have stable DHD at Q72 through the day and Q69 at night on Freesat V7 combo. Only drops around midnight to Q66 then rises around 30mins later.
In satellite world no Lnb can compensate for an increase in dish size.
If you increase the size of a dish from 6ft to 8ft , signal improves by around 50%.

I really envy you for the catch. that is a gem. The dish would easily set you back between 50-100,000ksh depending on size. if its too big for you throw it here . looks like 1.5m offset which can give you a alot.

It's not called a transponder but its an uplink/downlink lnbf or simply vsat lnb. carry everything dont throw away especially the feedhorn (funnel thingy )

Will update the house once i get my hands on it and thanks for the offer. It might come handy someday.

You are right about it brother. If it was just about an lnb alone, there wouldn't be 4 ft, 6 ft 8 ft 12 ft etc.

Actually for me that is kinder of a longshot as i got plans to upgrade to 8ft from 6ft.
But like I said, before shelving out that much for another dish, i might get "the best" as they say in those ends and try it on my current setup.
If that works better and my desired channels dances 24/7 then I might call it off for an 8ft dish.

Now you got me interested, you mean those scovery channels are on 24/7 with a six feet dish?

try and report back. I,ve been curious on the performance on this lnb. Its made by american standards complete with external heat sink. make sure you got allan keys it does not use ordinary screw driver for adjustment

Little baby steps at a time. Now I will have three offsets after getting this one. Two old 120cm *big brother* dishes and this huge one. Then an old Zuku decoder, an improvised protractor and a notebook. Next target, an old prime focus at a friend's place and to buy a Strong Decoder plus an Inverto for offset.
