UNEMPLOYED Doctors this morning staged a peaceful protest with the aim of marching to State House to seek audience with President Hakainde Hichilema over the need to employ about 800 Doctors Country wide.
The doctors said they want the Head of State to give a directive that all the 800 doctors will be employed at once, a situation that will bring the issue of volunteering to an end.
And speaking on behalf of the doctors, Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) National Executive Planner Dr. Chifuka Phiri said all what the Doctors want is a clear road map about their employment.
Dr. Phiri said most Doctors have volunteered for more than one year exposing them to various diseases of which they cannot even be compensated for.
He explained that although the minister of health has been on record stating that the employment has commenced no Doctor has been employed by the new dawn government.
Dr Phiri noted that Government needs to realize that doctors are essential workers who need to be employed for the betterment of all citizens in the country.
“Our parents have spent so much money on our school and they are looking forward to a time we can help our young ones,” he said.
And speaking when he addressed the protesting Doctors, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Technical Services, Professor Luckson Kasonka maintained that recruitment of Health workers will be done systematically.
Professor Kasonka explained that it is not yet clear as to when the actual recruitment will be done, but that planning aimed towards the recruitment has already commenced.
He has since urged the Doctors to exercise patience as the recruitment process has already began.
“There has been a commitment by bally your father, and employment of the 11,200 health workers will take effect from the new dawn budget that was implemented last month,” he said.
