Three Chinese firms have won a Sh15.87 billion tender to construct the Kisumu-Chemelil-Muhoroni road in a move set to open up the region.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) deputy director for corporate communication Samwel Kumba, said the State corporation awarded the contract to China Railways Tenth Group, Sinohydro Company Limited and H-Young Company Limited.

The award of the contract paved the way for works on the 63-kilometre road to begin after drivers abandoned the motorway, opting for the smoother Kericho-Kisumu road going through Awasi and Ahero.

Works on the road started at the intersection with Kisumu - Kakamega (A1) road in Kisumu at Mamboleo and will progress through Miwani, Chemelil, and Muhoroni eventually terminating at Kapsitet junction, where it joins the Kericho-Kisumu road.

“Works on the key road started in June after the firms bagged the contracts. The contract sum is Sh5.19 billion for lot I, Sh4.96 billion for lot II and Sh5.72billion for lot III,” Mr Kumba told Business Daily on Thursday.

Lot 1 runs from Mamboleo junction to Miwani and will be done by China Railways Tenth Group.

By the time we hit 2030, I wonder how Kenya will look like., development left right and centre., which the media does not focus on much..

Already 6,600km of rural roads are under construction. Over the last 10 years Kenya has beaten south africa to become the new king of roads in sub-Saharan Africa having constructed over 10,000 km of new roads in 10 years while south africa could only manage 6000 km. Kenya is set to complete another 15,000 km of roads in the next 7 years with modern expressways running from mombasa all the way to malaba on the border with uganda.

In the next 4 years Nairobi and Nakuru will be the only cities in east africa to have elevated highways. With the new rironi-mau summit expressway Nakuru will have a 6km elevated highway. Already over kshs 150 billion has been poured in road construction in Coast region alone giving rise to new bridges over the indian ocean, Mteza (1.44 km) four lane dual carriageway, Mwache (660M) four lane dual carriageway. Mombasa is also on course to have 4 complete ring roads (by passes) diverting traffic from the city centre, a feature that only Nairobi has accomplished in east and central africa. Mombasa is currently second only to Nairobi on infrastructure ranking in east and central africa.

Apparently kizungu ni ngumu kuelewa! Acha nitafsiri kwa kiswahili. Yani kwa miaka 10 iliopita kenya imejenga barabara kuliko taifa nyingine yoyote africa. Afrika kusini imeongeza 6000km, Kenya imeongeza 12000 km, Yani Kenya ndio nchi pekee africa imeongeza paved roads kwa asilimia 100%. I hope you understand and certainly in east and central africa we rule.

Maumivu!!!!! Competition ni lazima. And now we have no competitor in east, central and most of southern africa. That is why Kenya compares itself to south africa, which unlike Kenya has been on a consistent economic decline over the last 10 years, while Kenya has been growing by leaps and bounds.

Ujinga ya kitanzania hii!!! Unga imepanda by 100%,mafuta ya kupika by 200% lakini hii ni dunia mzima sio kenya tu! Last week German trade unions planned a mass demonstration over food price increases. I know to you living under a pseudo democracy protests are a foreign concept.

Egypt iko na 100% electrification rate. Na sidhani kama Kenya imeshinda SA kwa electrification rate.
