President William Ruto has announced a KSh30 billion project to dual the Muthaiga–Kiambu Road corridor and its connecting bypasses to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Nairobi and Kiambu County. The announcement was made during the commissioning of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover in Nairobi.

The 23-kilometre road project is expected to transform movement along one of the capital's busiest transport corridors by reducing travel time, improving the movement of goods and people, and supporting the rapid growth of residential and commercial developments in Nairobi's northern metropolitan area. President Ruto said the investment will help unlock economic opportunities while addressing long-standing traffic bottlenecks that have slowed the city's expansion.

The Kiambu Road expansion forms part of a broader infrastructure programme aimed at modernising Nairobi's transport network. In addition to the dualling project, the government is implementing a KSh44.9 billion Intelligent Transport System that will introduce smart traffic management across more than 210 junctions in the city.

Other ongoing road projects include the upgrading of State House Road, the construction of access roads to Talanta Sports City Stadium, and the construction of the Upper Hill–Kenyatta Avenue flyover. The government says these investments are designed to improve urban mobility, support economic growth, and prepare Nairobi for future population and infrastructure demands.
