The Board of Directors of TANESCO has appointed Mr William Geoffrey Mhando to be the Managing Director of the state-owned power utility firm.
A statement issued by Tanesco in Dar es Salaam said the appointment is effective from June 1, 2010.
Before the new appointment, Mr Mhando was the company's General Manager for Distribution and Marketing.
The statement said Mr Mhando joined Tanesco in October 1987 as an electrical engineer before he was appointed power line engineer.
Between 1990 and 1992 he was the Tanesco Regional Manager for Singida.
Between 1992 and 1994 he was the Tanesco Regional Manager for Mbeya.
In 1995 he was promoted as the Tanesco Zonal Director for the South-Western Zone until 1999.
He is a holder of a Master's degree in electronics which he obtained in Cuba in 1987. He has also studied in several foreign institutions.
The appointment puts an end the debate over the delay to appoint Tanesco new boss after expiry of Dr Idris Rashid's contract late last year.
Reports that the Government planned to extend Dr Rashid's contract to manage the power utility firm sparked a heated debate a few months ago.
