To Mh. Tundu Lissu and Mh. Zitto Kabwe...
Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you; they're supposed to help you discover who you are. There are no great people in this world, only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet. Tough times never last, but tough people do. I pay great tribute to you two.
You two have not let the fear of time and danger to accomplish something, stand in your way of doing it. You have not treated stop signs as problems; but just as guidelines. When you couldn't fly you ran, when you couldn't run you walked and when you couldn't walk you have crawled...you never stopped, you moved forward.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. When you came to the end of your rope, you tied a knot and hung on. One must meet the challenge rather than wish it were not before them.
One may encounter many defeats, but one must not be defeated. In fact, at times it may be necessary to encounter a defeat, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. To be tested is good. The challenged life may be the best therapist.
The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep out people like Lissu and Zitto!. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop people who don't want it badly enough...the other people.
Don't be discouraged. It's often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock. Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow. For every challenge encountered, there is an opportunity for growth.
Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path, and you will find you have crossed the mountain. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain; when you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about.
Always let perseverance be your engine and hope your future. Nobody ever remembers those who gave up, for why should they? Thank you Lissu and Zitto, keep up the good fight...we owe you, we need you and the United Republic of Tanzania needs you.
I acknowledge the following great thinkers whose quotes have inspired me to come up with the above article which is directed to people who will never stop fighting for uhuru, haki na usawa even when the going gets tough. There may be many more such people in Tanzania but for now Lissu and Zitto take the prize.
Joseph Kennedy, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Joshua J. Marine, William Frederick Halsey, Jr., Robert H. Schuller
Martin Luther King, Jr, Maya Angelou, Franklin D. Roosevelt, William J. Brennan, Jr.,Gail Sheehy, Author, Haruki Murakami
