The Teaching Community:
From anecdotal evidence it is known that death toll has been high among the teaching community from primary to university levels. In 2004, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) conducted a baseline study.
The report however relied heavily on NACP reports for data on HIV infections and AIDS and assumed that primary school pupils, secondary school students and teachers follow the same trend as their respective cohorts in the general population. . . . . . .
The government has recently revealed that the education sector is in danger of losing more than 27,000 teachers to AIDS by 2020.
