Meaning: This proverb has nothing to do with marriage, but with mindset. Travel expands thinking. It broadens one's horizons. "Travel" represents "openness" to new ideas and concepts, other than what you already know.

A man lives under the same roof with his own sister before marriage. Thus, marrying one's "own" sister implies; sticking with one's own frame of thinking, unable to think "outside" the box. Or having a mentality that is unreceptive to new ideas - being closed minded. It also means holding on to old ways, while there's better ones. Or keeping old bad habits.

This proverb ministers to changing one's mindset. Because being stuck in old ways hinders personal development. Unless one cultivates a teachable spirit, to become open minded; only then, such a one will experience progress.
