The Claim
A viral video circulating on X, TikTok, and WhatsApp allegedly shows Gen. Moses Ali delivering a speech during his swearing-in ceremony as Member of Parliament for Adjumani West on May 13, 2026.
The post on X by nasser_Ug1 carried the caption:
“The Lion of Adjumani, Gen. Moses Ali, has officially taken his oath. A living legend, still standing strong for Uganda.”
The video bore the logo of “Entebbe City TV” on TikTok and had attracted Over 85,000 views, 278 comments, and over 200 reposts by the time JamiiCheck reviewed it. It was also widely circulating in WhatsApp groups.
Verdict: MISLEADING
JamiiCheck established that the viral video is old and was not recorded during Gen. Moses Ali’s swearing-in ceremony on May 13, 2026.
Findings
Using reverse image and frame analysis through Google reverse image search, JamiiCheck found that identical clips from the viral video were originally posted about 10 months earlier.
The original video was published on July 18, 2025, by Entebbe City TV on TikTok and carried the hashtags:
#MosesAli
#UgandaParliament
This confirms the footage predates the May 2026 oath-taking ceremony and was falsely recirculated as recent content.
What Actually Happened on May 13, 2026
According to reports and images published by Daily Monitor Uganda and Nile Post Uganda, Gen. Moses Ali took oath in a low-key indoor ceremony inside Parliament.
Unlike the viral video, the published images from the actual event showed:
1. A different outfit from the one seen in the circulating clip
2. An indoor parliamentary setting
3. No public speech or outdoor crowd appearance matching the viral footage
Reports also indicated that due to health and mobility challenges, the veteran politician was only assisted by the clerk to parliament , Adolf Mwesige and a few officials as seen in the attached images below 👇 by Daily Monitor UG.
Context
Moses Ali is Uganda’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
At 87 years old, he remains one of Uganda’s longest-serving political and military figures. Following the January 2026 general elections, he retained his Adjumani West parliamentary seat under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
